Kindle firmware 2.5.3 released; international browsing unlocked

Amazon has announced that its 2.5.3 firmware for the Kindle ereader is now being pushed out wirelessly to all users.  The new software - which adds the ability to sort ebooks into "Collections" (aka folders), share notes and highlighted passages on Facebook and Twitter, and improves PDF handling among other things - should arrive on your Kindle "over the next few weeks"; however we've just checked our unit and it's already been updated.

Amazon Kindle Update to 2.5.2 Available for International Owners

For US owners of the Amazon Kindle, the update to 2.5 has been a very unique one. While it showed up on a Kindle DX for one lucky customer, so far reports haven't been all that "standard" for people with the Kindle waiting to get updated to the latest firmware. Of course, we're sure it's out there, somewhere. Making a few people happy. And while this download link has been available for a little while now, we wanted to go ahead and bring it to our international readers out there, that if you've got the right model of Kindle, you can manually update your eReader to the latest firmware.

iPad WiFi fix promised in future firmware

The iPad's temperamental WiFi has already been fingered as a DHCP issue - temporarily fixable by power cycling the wireless or the tablet itself - but it seems Apple themselves are readying what will hopefully be a more permanent fix.  The company's two support pages for the iPad WiFi issue (here and here) have been updated with the promise that "Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update."

Motorola MILESTONE Android 2.1 update released

Motorola Europe have announced that the long-awaited Android 2.1 update for the Motorola MILESTONE - the European version of the Verizon DROID - is finally available for download.  The impatient can head over to Motorola's support pages and get it for PC installation, while those with better things to do with their time - or who use a Mac, since Moto don't seem to offer an OS X version of the firmware updater - can wait a few days for a promised OTA update.

Fusion Garage has confirmed that the promised JooJoo software update has been released OTA to existing owners.  Tipped to address UI problems and bring full-screen Flash video playback to the iPad-alternative, the new firmware has also been loaded onto demo JooJoo units Fusion Garage have been toting for their European roll-out; unfortunately, judging by some hands-on impressions with the updated unit, it's still not perfect.

Samsung BD-UP5000 firmware 1.5 update promises Avatar Blu-ray support

Samsung's BD-UP5000 Blu-ray player and its problems coping with the new Avatar disc showed that not all media - or firmware - are created equal, but true to their word the company have swung into action with a firmware update.  Posted to the Samsung support site this week, all that's mentioned in the firmware release notes is that v1.5 "improves playback compatibility in some movies."
