So long, IE6. You had a good run as the dominant browser for the better part of a decade. But with the combined efforts of Mozilla, Google, Apple and (last bust certainly not least) Microsoft itself, your reign of Internet supremacy is coming to a final end. According to the latest metrics posted to the Windows Team Blog, Internet Explorer 6 is used by less than 1% of Windows PCs in the US, having been supplanted by IE7 and later versions, Firefox and Chrome. Internet Explorer slips as Chrome grabs browser market share

The battle of the browsers continues, with Microsoft's Internet Explorer losing market share to Google's Chrome and others, while analysts predict a sub-50-percent dip for IE as early as March 2012. Counting all versions, Internet Explorer dropped to 51.9-percent market share in December according to Net Applications, ComputerWorld reports, with Chrome ending the year at 19.1-percent. Google to pay Mozilla almost $300 million per year in search deal to outdo Microsoft and Yahoo

AllThingsD has reported that Google will be on track to pay an impressive $300 million per year to Mozilla, for when Google and Mozilla renewed their search royalty deal, earlier this week. This exorbitant amount of money will allow Google to be the default search engine in Mozilla's Firefox web browser. The deal has apparently climbed to this figure, from previous deals, due to Yahoo and Microsoft's Bing search engine, which have provided ample competition, until now. Read The Full Story

Firefox 9 support for Android arrives on tablets

Firefox Google deal renewed, 84% revenue loss avoided

Not that we ever though Google would really abandon its best buddy in the world Mozilla, but the news that Firefox would lose 84% of its revenue certainly came as a shock to us as it was reported earlier this month - it appears now though that this disaster for the big red panda was a false alarm, Google renewing their contract for a further three years. Kind of reminds you of Jurassic Park, doesn't it? Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Silicon Valley nonprofit software makers whose most famous product is the web browser itself are certainly high-fiving one another today as Google remains the default search engine for the browser. Firefox 8 up for FTP download now

It's time to upgrade your Firefox web browser, ladies and gentlemen, and it won't be the same peaches and cream automatic update you're used to - this one's FTP. That means Mozilla has the files you need to update your Firefox to the next version, but at the moment you'll have to manually download them from their servers and load it up yourself.
