Archos announces Fusion Storage tech, 256 GB tablet

When speaking of mobile devices, there are usually two kinds of storage. Internal memory which comes with all devices and, for those with microSD card slots, external or expansion storage. Android seems to have a love/hate relationship with the latter, with Google opting to scrap it altogether because of security and stability, while users want the freedom to expand their available storage. Archos seems to have a rather strange solution called "Fusion Storage" that attempts to virtually combine the two into one unified "internal" memory.

Chrome OS may soon allow file transfers from external drive to the cloud

Chrome OS has seen some interesting new features of late. Remote Desktop sharing finally hit Chrome, and you can now run Linux in a window without leaving Chrome. Though both are still works in progress, they signal a new direction for Chrome OS wherein the “browser OS” gets a bit more desktop. There may be another cool feature rolling in, as code commits in Chrome’s Developer hub, Chromium, suggest Google Drive will soon be able to take files straight from an external drive or SD card to the cloud.

One quiet corner of Samsung’s umbrella consumer tech offerings is storage, where they’ve made quite a splash with their SSD options. Today at CES, Samsung is rolling out an upgrade to their SSD storage, going external and big — but also small. Their new SSD T1 is about as small as a credit card (thicker, obviously), but houses a full terabyte of data storage. The SSD is also meant for external use, where Samsung boasts it’s perfect for the mobile consumer.

In mid-November, SanDisk introduced its iXpand flash drive for the newest iPads and iPhones, and not to leave Android users in the dust, the company has now taken the wraps off its microUSB-toting Ultra Dual USB Drive 3.0 for Android smartphones and tablets.
