Netgear revealed its ambitious network storage plans early this year, rolling out the red carpet for an eventual launch of a handful of ReadyNAS units that would complement the ReadyNAS Duo v2 that we reviewed in 2011. We got our hands on one of these new units, the ReadyNAS RN102, a 2-bay connected device that offers up to 8TB of storage, which places it a step below the similarly-launched RN104. Buffalo DriveStation DDR claims SSD speeds with HDD hardware

Buffalo has revealed its latest external drive, the DriveStation DDR HD-GDU3, slotting more RAM into the USB 3.0-connected enclosure so as to rival SSD speeds, allegedly, with HDD pricing. The new drive, available in 2TB and 3TB capacities, uses traditional spinning-platter disks to keep prices down, but Buffalo claims that thanks to a combination of caching and other tweaking it'll reach write speeds of up to 400 MB/s.

Connected Data Transporter 2.0 detailed as Drobo merger talks revealed

Personal cloud provider Connected Data has announced version 2.0 of its Transporter, the bottle-shaped desktop drive that raised more than $260k on Kickstarter, as well as news of merger discussions with Drobo. The updated Transporter functionality - which will be pushed out to existing owners courtesy of a software upgrade - pares back the interface for easier link-sharing and drag'n'drop file management, as well as more granular control over which files are synchronized.
