, Jun 26th 2012 Discuss [0]

The developer conference known as Google I/O that's going on this week at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, is home to several traditions, one of which is now de-coding the official t-shirt given out to all attendees. As it turns out, this year's shirt is not only super-fashionable, it's also displaying a bit of actual coding language on the butt. This code runs a string of commands and rules that creates a fun little bit of digital excellence right inside the Google universe, and it's all so simple. Read The Full Story

Microsoft Surface tablet event wrap-up

, Jun 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week we made our way down to Los Angeles to check out Microsoft‘s big Surface tablet reveal, this their big move into the tablet space before Windows 8 and Windows RT have been formally introduced with 3rd party manufacturers. The likes of Acer, Lenovo, and HP were nowhere to be found at this event, with Microsoft speaking only for themselves here in their rare appearance in the hardware manufacturing realm. After a quick drive down memory lane from the Microsoft Mouse to the Xbox all the way forward through the original Microsoft Surface (the big table version), Microsoft brought on the fire with their first big-time tablet for Windows 8′s Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro.

Microsoft Surface re-introduced as a handheld tablet

, Jun 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week Microsoft has re-introduced their own creation as a smaller version of itself: Microsoft Surface in the form of a handheld tablet. It was Steve Ballmer himself that came onstage at the start of this event, beginning his talk with a bit of a teaser with "cloud computing and entertainment" and ending up letting us know the big bang right from the start: "and in all that we've done, Windows is the heart and soul." Ballmer let the audience know that Windows in all powers 1 billion computers (and more, we must assume) across the earth, and that "Windows 8 re-imagines the product." Read The Full Story

Microsoft makes another tablet tease pre-event

, Jun 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

Today while in wait before the Microsoft "Major Announcement" media event began, the screens up front showed no less than what we may well have called early on: tablets. The sounds of Gotye brought on bright shapes and clear 16:9 ratios in rectangles pushing up and down the screen at Milk Studios as we awaited what we've been tipped (before the event) would be either a Windows 8 Surface device or a Windows RT tablet. It's that or a new Xbox handheld, ladies and gentlemen. Read The Full Story

Microsoft Milk Studios event – we’re here!

, Jun 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

It's just about time to head in to the Microsoft "Major Announcement" media event that the press have been invited to on this extremely hot and sunny summer's day. We've been hypothesizing since the end of last week when Microsoft first invited the media world to this super secretive announcement (or set of announcements), and what's come up has been everything from an Xbox software upgrade to a Microsoft Surface downgrade - in size, that is. What seems most likely thus far is a Windows 8 tablet, as it were, so stay tuned as we move forward into the fray! Read The Full Story

Microsoft Xbox Surface predicted back in 2010

, Jun 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

If you've got a rather good memory and do truly believe that the engineers who create devices like the Xbox and the operating system Windows are that good, it does appear likely that Microsoft leaked today's Special Event secret back in 2010. Back then a fellow by the name of Bill Buxton, Microsoft's then Principal Researcher, spoke about how the Microsoft Surface, which had been in the works since 2007, was going to get a whole lot smaller rather quickly, or as he said it: "I believe you will see [a cost-effective Microsoft Surface in people's living rooms] in three years." This combined with the leaked "Xbox Surface" document we saw earlier makes a rather enticing case, wouldn't you say? Read The Full Story

Microsoft $1 billion Yammer purchase sets stage for birthday blowout

, Jun 14th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week it's become apparent that Microsoft Corp. may well be purchasing the business social network by the name of Yammer for a hefty sum of $1 billion USD. This number of course does not seem all that grand compared to the $1 billion USD Facebook purchase of Instagram, but it does show that Microsoft could be in the market for an expansion of the many social-minded bits of software and hardware they've already got. Yammer is, on the other hand, business oriented, so perhaps this is a purchase made for the corporate customers Microsoft works with alone. Read The Full Story

Microsoft forced to apologize for penis song

, Jun 10th 2012 Discuss [0]

Microsoft is a global company, so sometimes the software giant has to tailor its message depending on what region it's in, but even cultural differences can't possibly describe what was going through the minds of whoever set up a recent developer event in Norway. Microsoft is now playing damage control over a bizarre and borderline offensive dance routine that was part of said event. Read The Full Story
