The Epson Moverio BT-100 is a pair of augmented reality glasses that, in the wake of the future success of Google Glass and the Occulus Rift, keeps itself unique with its own combination of abilities. This week SlashGear had a chat with Eric Mizufuka, Product Manager of New Markets at Epson and Scott Montgomerie, CEO and lead developer of Scope Technologies about the newest use of this still very developer-stage pair of futuristic glasses: augmented reality industrial product training.

As Eric Mizufuka explained this week, the Moverio BT-100 is “a wearable display – smartglasses – with a shade that’s removable.” What you’re seeing with these glasses is an image that can get as large as an 80-inch display depending on what you’re using them for, and they’re able to work with apps such as the one presenting 3D device augmented reality training that Scope AR is showing off this year.

At it’s base, this device is powered by an Android control unit – it’s able to run and launch Android apps just like a smartphone would, so to speak. This product in its current form was launched over a year ago, and according to Mizufuka, the unit was and is “seen originally as more of a developer platform so developers could take the lead on creating apps that would eventually shape the device.”

Epson’s Moverio BT-100 glasses are not yet consumer market ready – they’re not yet in a place where they’re meant for the consumer market, instead concentrating on developer efforts to create “that one killer app” to start the machine that is the succssful launch of the platform.

As for how they fit into the augmented reality or “smart” glasses universe thats coming to light here in 2013, Mizufuka suggests that there’s a four-point set of categories that each unit in this new market fall into, each pair of said glasses working with two.

Binocular / Monocular
Transparent / Non-Transparent

While the Epson Moverio BT-100 unit falls into the binocular and transparent category, Occulus Rift is a binocular, non-tranparent device. Google Glass, on the other hand, is a monocular tranparent device.

Epson’s product makes its way in the market with features that are, as Mizufuka suggests, rather unique. “[Moverio BT-100] is unique in that you can see 3D, and unique in that it’s in the center of your field of view so you can overlay 3D images over real objects.” This is what the company calls Real Augmented Reality.

"Glass is a beautiful product and it’s miniturized very well, but you still have some consumer kickback saying it’s too geeky."

Mizufuka let SlashGear know that they’d be creating the final consumer units as a product that people will want to use, one that they intend to be able to be worn by everyone. “Glass is a beautiful product and it’s miniturized very well, but you still have some consumer kickback saying it’s too geeky.”

CEO and lead developer of Scope Technologies Scott Montgomerie let us know that as soon as they discovered Epson’s augmented reality glasses, they knew they had to collaborate. Their need for such a solution for their idea to overlay machine parts in 3D for users training in the industrial market seemed like a perfect fit. “Industrial Augmented Reality for machinery, overlaying 3D images over real machines seemed impracticle at first – until the idea of augmented reality glasses, like Moverio BT-100, came up.”

Mounting a camera on top of the optics they’d already had, they created the device you see demonstrated here:

Montgomerie continued: “Our strategy is in the near term to focus on these verticle market applications. I think the consumer is just getting comfortable now with wearable displays, as soon as we’re able to find that killer app in the market, we’ll be there.” Sound like the right path to take to you? Epson’s Mizufuka let it be known that the final consumer product would be both affordable and made for the mass market – and we’re hoping for more soon!

The augmented reality scene is hotting up, with the promise of full computer-mediated vision for the mainstream and another hint that Google won’t have the Glass market all to itself thanks to an incoming headset from startup Meta. The wearable project actually goes one step further than Project Glass, putting a full twin-display digital environment – controlled by two hand 3D tracking – in front of the user, rather than floating notifications and prompts in the corner of their eye as Google’s system does.

The prototype headset is a clunky beast, admittedly, consisting of an Epson Moverio BT-100 with a low-latency 3D camera mounted on top. According to Noah Zerkin - who you might remember from his run-in with Google’s Sergey Brin a week ago, and who had the chance to play with a Meta dev-kit - both components feed into custom electronics in a separate box, and which can currently track individual fingertips and overlay glowing dots over them in real-time, similar to what’s shown in Meta’s concept video.

Meta isn’t just using off-the-shelf Moverio headsets, either. The company has inked a deal with Epson [pdf link] to collaborate on augmented reality technologies, with the pair promising applications in media, retail, gaming, productivity, and more.

The initial promo video, however, takes an altogether consumer-friendly approach, positioning Meta as an ideal accessory for the web-obsessed social media user. That includes overlaying digital graphics – in this case Facebook – over elements of the real-world, and then using gestures to interact with them; for instance, a physical “thumbs-up” motion “Likes” a Facebook post, while news articles can be browsed by sweeping through, and then grabbing, preview bubbles floating in mid-air.

For fashionistas (a pretty broad term, if you take it to include anybody who might feel a bit self-conscious about wearing the Franken-headset Meta developer kit), there are more streamlined designs in the pipeline, with the company envisaging a slick pair of sunglasses with the stereo cameras discretely embedded in the bridge. Hopefully that would also include higher-resolution displays than the qHD resolution each Moverio panel currently runs at, and of course there are issues of battery life still to be addressed.

Epson’s existing headset runs for up to six hours, though that’s using a wired remote control unit with a battery pack. According to Zerkin, Meta and Epson are looking to replace the LCD screens in the existing Moverio with OLED panels from providers such as MicroOLED; that should introduce improvements in both visibility and power consumption.

Still, true mediated reality – as opposed to augmented reality - is an ambitious next-step for the wearables industry, and Meta believes there’s room for it to succeed. The company plans to launch its Meta 1 dev-kit on Kickstarter soon – no word on estimated pricing at this stage - and target imaginative developers of AR apps, just as Google will do later this month with its first Glass Foundry event.

Epson has announced a new home theater projector that supports both 2-D and 3-D technology. The new projector is called the Home Cinema 750HD and it uses 3LCD technology. Epson also claims that the new projector is its brightest home theater projector offered so far.

The projector has 3000 lumens of color and 3000 lumens of white brightness allowing for better image quality in rooms that have more ambient light. The projector supports full HD resolution content and supports active shutter 3-D viewing at 720p resolution. The projector supports picture size up to 300-inches.

Epson designed the projector to be placed in an entertainment center or mounted to the ceiling. The projector uses Epson’s latest RF 3-D glasses promising up to 40 hours of use with a full charge up to three hours of use with a three-minute quick charge. The projector has a 1.2 times optical zoom lens to allow for positioning flexibility and has automatic vertical keystone correction.

Connectivity options include component video, S-video, HDMI, and USB connectivity. The projector ships with a single pair of 3-D glasses and promises a lamp life of up to 5000 hours. One of the most interesting features of the new projector is that it has a surprisingly affordable price of $899. The projector will be available in late March through select dealers nationwide and online via Epson.com.

I never have problems finding a place to put my computer screen or the tower that stands beside my desk in an office or room. It always seems like the computer accessory I have a problem placing is my printer. The reason is that the printer so big and bulky. Epson has unveiled a new printer that is compact and should be much easier to find a spot for on or near your desk.

The new printer is called the Epson Expression Home XP-400 Small-in-One, and it sells for under $100. The printer has a 2.5-inch LCD touch panel screen on the front and integrated memory card slots for printing photos from memory cards without a computer. The printer uses Epson’s DuraBrite Ultra Ink and has integrated Epson Connect, Apple AirPrint, and Google Cloud Print for wireless printing from smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.

The printer is an all-in-one that can print, scan, and copy and measures 15.4 x 20.8 x 11.0 inches. The scanner has a 2400 dpi resolution, and the printer can automatically correct over and underexposed digital photos. Red eye removal is also integrated into the printer and most popular photo sizes can be printed. The printer will launch in June from $99.99 online and in retail stores.

The projector has a 1.2x optical zoom with 30-degree range for vertical keystone correction and a lamp rating of up to 5,000 hours. It’s expected to ship later this month for $650.

Epson America has announced it is now shipping the world’s first Android-based see-through wearable display called the Moverio BT-100. These things look like glasses a high-tech Ray Charles might wear. The glasses use micro projection technology and a track pad that is Android-based to allow the wearer to enjoy video and other digital content on a virtual 80-inch perceived screen.

The glasses have integrated Wi-Fi connectivity and an internal rechargeable battery good for about six hours of use. The glasses have a microSD card slot to allow the direct playback of material and 1 GB of internal storage. The most interesting aspect of these glasses is that the projected video hovers over the real world so the user can see what’s going on around them as they watch.

These glasses would be perfect for augmented reality. The glasses support Adobe Flash and have Dolby Mobile surround sound delivered to integrated detachable earphones that are included with the glasses were users personal earphones. The glasses also support side-by-side 3-D content. Users can order the BT-100 glasses right now via Amazon for $699.99 were directly from Epson.

Ever since first coming to the market, Parrot’s AR.Drone has found a wide variety of uses thanks to its agile nature combined with a camera able to pipe video directly to your smartphone. Controlling the drone and seeing video on such small screens hasn’t always been ideal, though. Thomas Sohmers, tech geek and inventor, has come up with an alternate method of controlling the drone while keeping an eye on the feed.

The Epson Moverio BT-100 was designed as a pair of video glasses running Android, with two small LCD screens that sit close to your eyes, emulating a big screen experience. While they’re designed as a portable movie and TV watching solution, Sohmers has taken advantage of the see-through display and controller in order to watch the video fed coming from the AR.Drone while also making basic adjustments such as thrust and rotation.

Because the Moverio is running Android, it can run the AR.Drone application naively. The drone also creates an ad-hoc WiFi network, allowing the Moverio to connect and receive the video, as well as send control commands. It’s far from perfect, of course, with some controls still not working.

Still, it’s a nifty little demo, even if the price to get everything running is a little high. The Moverio glasses retail for around £500 (~$785), with the AR.Drone itself coming in around $300.

This very first entry into the GPS watch market by Epson doesn’t have any catchy branding just yet, but it’s touted to be a running monitor that offers outstanding data accuracy, battery life, comfort, and water resistance. Due to the special low-power GPS module designed by Epson, the battery can operate with GPS tracking on for up to 12 hours after a full charge.

As for the lightness, the Epson watch is said to weigh just 50 grams or about less than two ounces. It’s only 13mm thick rubber monitor certainly helps lighten the load but also makes for an ultra compact sports watch. It’s expected to be released sometime in 2012, but in Japan with no mention of whether it would arrive in other markets yet.

Intel is matchmaking vendors and manufacturers in an attempt to ensure the success of its ultrabook segment, pushing brand names into the embrace of ODMs promising ultraportables as cheap as $599. Epson, Onkyo, ViewSonic, Mustek, Motion Computing, WiPro and Positivo have all placed orders with Pegatron and ECS, DigiTimes reports, after Intel put them altogether for notebook speed-dating .

Although none of the machines are expected to be either as eye-catching or as well marketed as the top-tier ultrabooks from Dell, HP, Lenovo and others, what they will have in their favor is affordability. Intel is pushing for $599 to $649 machines, accounting for around 6- to 7-percent of the notebook market overall in 2012.

The new models are coming in Q2 2012, the sources say, as part of a 15m 2012 push for second-tier vendors as the ultrabook market takes off.

Meanwhile, Quanta Computer – believed to be manufacturing HP’s ultrabook for the company – has apparently bought its own CNC machines so that it can create unibody casings in-house. The investment is being seen as an attempt to cut manufacturing costs, reducing the need to outsource chassis production. Rival Wistron, though, is apparently looking to non-metal options, which would open the door to alternative color ultrabooks.

I have used a bunch of different video glasses over the years for reviews and what not. I have never once had a pair of video glasses in my hands that I would remotely consider wearing in public. A geek has his limits after all. The new Moverio BT-100 video glasses have the same ugly style that most of this sort of gadget offers with some notable differences. The first difference is that on the tiny models skull, the glasses look wider than others on the market do.

The real difference though is that Epson is using a new type of transparent lenses that allow you to watch your video content, but allow you to see though the screens at the same time. The idea is that you can keep away of your surroundings. The see through lenses will also allow you to check out the people that are laughing and pointing at you for wearing glasses that look like they came off a Ray Charles caricature.

Each of the little see through screens have a resolution of 960 x 540. They are placed close enough to the eyes that they are able to simulate a screen 320-inches wide from about 20 meters away. The BT-100 glasses are designed to fit over normal eyeglasses and the controller runs Android 2.2. They also have WiFi connectivity and the battery is good for up to six hours. The video glasses will hit Japan on November 25 at a price working out to about $643.

I already mentioned a couple of the cool cars that have surfaced at SEMA this year. Another awesome car that is on hand at the show is a Ferrari 458 Italia that has a custom wrap. The wrap was applied in partnership with Epson, Avery Dennison, and SkinWraps to showcase what you can pull off with one of the large format Epson printers.

The Ferrari is sitting in the Epson booth at SEMA and is called “Burning Down The House.” The wrap was printed by SkinWraps using an Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 printer. The print media was Avery MPI 1005 SuperCast. The wrap completely changes the look of the Ferrari.

The coolest part is that after the show is over the car will be unwrapped quickly and returned to its natural form with no issues. The Epson printer can print to the Avery media in 64-inch wide swaths with photographic image quality. The maximum image resolution is 1440 x 1440 dpi. The Avery media is 2-mil cast vinyl.

Brightness is important since this sort of projector is often used in a classroom or office when it is bright. The projector line starts at $949.

The 420 is the $949 unit, the 425W sells for $1,049, the 430 is $1,049, and the 435W is $1,149. They can be wall or ceiling mounted and are made to project onto a blackboard or a whiteboard. The 430 and 435W are both 3,000 lumen projectors with the other two having 2,500 lumens of brightness. The 420 and 430 are XGA resolution projectors with the 425W and 435W offering WXGA resolution.

All of the projectors have lots of connectivity with HDMI, RJ-45 ports, and USB ports. The line also has a 16W internal speaker, the ability to show things without a computer, and direct power on and off controls. The projectors also have 3LCD technology allowing for more flexible installations. The new line will launch in late-November.

CEDIA is one of the most overlooked tech shows out there I think. Each year the show takes place and I usually forget about it. This is the show where a ton of home theater gear is unveiled for the first time. Epson is at CEDIA 2011 and has unveiled several new projectors for home theater and custom installers that have some very nice features. The projectors include the Pro Cinema 6010, Home Cinema 5010/5010e, and the Home Cinema 3010/3010e. All of the projectors use 3LCD tech.

The 6010, 5010, and 5010e projectors share some of the same features with contrast ratios of 200,000:1 and 2,400 lumens of color and white light output. They also use the Epson Super Resolution tech and FineFrame tech for smoother frame interpolation and better video quality in 2D mode. The projectors use the 2.1 zoom ratio OptiCinema lens and have 2D to 3D conversion capability. The main difference between them is that the 5010e adds wireless capability to the 5010 and the 6010 adds two anamorphic lens modes, two pairs of 3D glasses, ISF calibration, a ceiling mount, cable cover, and an extra lamp.

The Home Cinema 3010 and 3010e also have the same features with the 3010e adding wireless to the mix. Both have 2,200 lumens of color and white light output with contrast ratios up to 40,000:1. The projectors also have dual 10W speakers for sound with no external setup and will work in 3D and 2D modes. The 6010 projector will be offered for under $4,000. The 5010 and 5010e will sell for $3,000 and $3,500 respectively. The previous projectors will land in November. The 3010 and 3010e will sell for $1,599 and $1,799 respectively with an October launch date.

The new Epson printer is the NX430 and while it is an all in one printer, Epson calls the printer a small-in-one because of its small size. The machine measures in at 15.4″ x 11.8″ x 5.7″ and it weighs 9 pounds. That makes the printer considerably smaller than other AIO printers on the market. The printer is fully featured as well.

It has integrated Epson Wireless connectivity to allow the user to print directly from their network. The wireless connectivity supports networks up to 802.11n speed. The NX430 also supports cloud printing and it can print email sent from a smartphone as well as photos, documents, and websites. The printer has a 2.5-inch LCD and smart touch panel for selecting and printing photos.

It has separate color ink cartridges and the inks are instant drying to prevent smears and smudges. The ink is also water resistant on all paper types. The printer has tech to correct photos automatically. It can scan with 2400dpi resolution for photos and documents. The print speeds are ISO 6.2ppm in black and 3.2 ppm in color. The printer will ship this month for $99.99.

Epson and E Ink have thrown their hats into the high-resolution mobile display ring, promising a 9.68-inch 300dpi panel for SID 2011. Unlike the pixel-packing LCDs Toshiba, Samsung and LG are hawking, Epson and E Ink are looking to e-paper for their screen salvation: the monochrome panel runs at a hefty 2,400 x 1,650.

E Ink will be responsible for the display itself, which is expected to find its way into “epaper document readers” – that’s big-screen ereaders to you and I – and be particularly popular among business and education users, as well as in countries with character-based text. Epson, meanwhile, will be taking charge of the display controller, which will incorporate not only the display controller IC but an applications processor, system power management IC and firmware.

That controller will support various sensor inputs to allow for handwriting recognition support, as well as promising high-speed image rendering and page-turns. Epson claims it’s a departure from the traditional e-paper controllers, using tech borrowed from the company’s photo-quality printers.

No word on when the new panel will be commercially available at this stage.

Press Release:

E Ink and Epson Achieve World-Leading ePaper Resolution

- TOKYO, Japan, and HSINCHU, Taiwan, May 17, 2011 -

E Ink Holdings Inc. and Seiko Epson Corporation (“Epson”) today announced the joint development of a 300-dpi electronic paper device with razor-sharp text and images for ePaper Document Readers. Combining E Ink’s high-resolution ePaper display and Epson’s high-speed display controller platform, the new device will enable the world’s highest resolution ePaper tablets. With sharply improved readability and ease-of-use the ePaper Document Reader is expected to catch on in business and education settings where huge amounts of data have to be processed, as well as in countries that use character-based text, including Japan and China.

Thin, lightweight, energy-efficient eReaders with easy-to-read, paper-like displays have won over consumers, who are snapping up ePaper devices in unprecedented numbers, causing the market to surge. Demand has also been on the rise in business and education, market segments that require exactly what ePaper provides: the fast and accurate display of enormous amounts of information. Applications in these segments demand higher resolution than that offered by today’s 160-dpi displays due to the need to crisply render, with smooth gradations, engineering diagrams, illustrations, Asian characters, and other fine or intricate content. These market segments also demand faster page navigation and sophisticated user interfaces to allow instant viewing of vast amounts of data.

“As the adoption of eReaders continues to rise worldwide, the opportunities for our EPD technology are expanding in new market segments including business and education,” said Scott Liu, chairman of E Ink. “We continue to improve E Ink’s technology to meet the demands of our customers and the needs of consumers, and this new EPD delivers the low power, sunlight readability and thin, lightweight form factor users have come to expect from E Ink at an even higher resolution.”

“We developed this device specifically to meet the high data demands of business and academia,” said Torao Yajima, managing director at Epson. “Our IC controller and processing power enables the display to handle large files while maintaining the excellent display control and operability found in today’s EPDs, including fast page navigation and a sophisticated user interface.”

Epson’s high speed controller platform is an ideal choice for developers who wish to develop high resolution eTablets with ease and within a very short period.

The respective roles of E Ink and Epson and the products they offer are described below.

E Ink

E Ink will manufacture, sell and support the newly developed 300-dpi ePaper displays, which measure 9.68 inches on the diagonal and have 2,400 x 1,650 pixels. These paper-like, high-resolution displays demonstrate in full the very best features of ePaper: crisp and clear text and images on an easy-on-the-eyes screen, a thin and light form factor, and ultra-low power consumption.

Epson

Epson will manufacture, sell and support a high-resolution, high-speed display controller platform optimized for controlling E Ink’s high-resolution display. Leveraging Epson’s experience with image processing technology developed for photo-quality printers, the display controller platform combines a display controller IC, applications processor, system power management IC, and firmware to provide excellent display control and improved operability.

Moving forward, E Ink and Epson plan to continue collaborating to promote the popularization of ePaper based devices in the business and education markets by developing technology, expanding and upgrading the product lineup, and providing customer support.

Exhibition plans
High-resolution e-paper device

The jointly developed device will be on display at the E Ink booth at SID, to be held in Los Angeles from May 15 to 20.

Epson has unveiled a new digital projector for the classroom or the boardroom that is a dual function device. The projector is the BrightLink 455Wi Interactive Projector and it is designed to throw an image on a wall or screen and can throw the image straight down at a table. The 455Wi also has a pen for interaction with the projected content.

The projector is an ultra short throw unit that can throw an image onto a whiteboard, wall, table, or other smooth and light color surface. The device has flexibility with installation allowing the usable interactive areas to be WXGA resolution for 55″ to 96″ diagonally or XGA at 55″ to 85″ diagonally. The projector has 2500 lumens of color and white light output and is compatible with notebooks.

Epson offers accessories for the projector that allow it to be mounted to a table, and it can be mounted to a height adjustable cart designed just for the projector. The table mode sounds really cool and turns any table into an interactive surface for working with small groups of students. The students can play games on the table top and more. The projector can be mounted as little as 2.8″ from the wall and from 10″ away it is able to throw and 80″ image. The projector uses 3LCD tech and it is available right now for $2199 or through the Brighter Futures program for schools for $1699.

The app allows for previewing and printing directly to any Epson wireless AIO printer on the market.

The app will work on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Using the app the user can print things like Office documents, PDF files, JPEG photos, email, and all sorts of attachments from email. The app connects the Apple device to the Epson wireless printer using a WiFi network in the home of office.

The app has been around for a while now, so the app in itself isn’t new. What is new is the price. Right now, the app costs $6.99. Epson reports that once the App Store processes a price change the app will be offered free to all users.

For some people, a digital photo frame is exactly what they’re looking for this holiday season. For others, it’s a gadget that just do enough to warrant a purchase. Epson decided to make not only a digital photo frame, but also attach a photo printer on their for good measure, which the company hopes will catch the eye of anyone who wants a quick and easy way to not only show off their pictures, but also print them off.

The PictureMate Show is similar to the company’s previous PictureMate Charm photo printer, but this one brings several updates and improvements to the previous Charm. You get a larger LCD display this time around. At 7-inches, the Show’s digital photo frame should be big enough to show off your photos to family and friends. However, if you’re looking for a range of sizes to print from, the Show won’t be your printer of choice. Prints can only be 4 x 6. An interesting design choice, was to include a remote control for usage controls, and not providing a touchscreen interface on the 7-inch LCD display.

You can load images into the photo frame via an SD card slot, or from the integrated USB port. There’s also an optional Bluetooth adapter, which should let you send images from a Bluetooth-enabled picture taking device, right to the PictureMate Show. If you’re thinking this would be the perfect gift for someone you know, or yourself, you can head on through here, and pick one up for $299.99.

A mysterious color e-paper drawing tablet has gone on show in Germany this week, apparently part of the ongoing BnF Lab project in Paris. The slate allows for color sketching on an A4-sized e-paper panel; it’s unclear exactly who is responsible for producing the panel, though Bridgestone, Epson and Samsung – which have each developed color e-paper products – are listed as sponsors [pdf link].

Bridgestone has most recently seen its large-scale color e-paper display used in an upcoming ereader, set to go on sale in China next month. Previous prototypes of the display have supported pen-input, so we’ve a feeling Bridgestone’s screen is at the core of this particular demo unit.

There’s no word on whether we can expect an e-paper drawing table on the market, unfortunately. It seems the installation is more about showing library visitors what new technologies they can expect to shape information exchange in the future.

The high-end offering is the 85HD with 720p resolution and a bright E-TORL lamp that offers more light output than previous models. The projector has up to 2500 lumens of color and white light output.

The 85HD and the 62 both have integrated mic jack for voice amplification, HDMI connectivity and they are compatible with the iPod, Wii, PS3, and Xbox without needing additional cables. Both projectors can throw a 60-inch image from 6-feet away and a 120-inch image from 12-feet away. The MovieMate 62 has a lower 540p resolution and only 2000 lumens of color and white light output. The 85HD will sell for $899 and the 62 will sell for $649 with both shipping later this month.

I really like my iPhone and iPad and there have been a bunch of times that I have wanted to print something from one of the devices and ended up having to jump through a lot of hoops to get whatever the data was over to a printer. Epson and a company called Thinxtream have teamed up to develop PrintJinni for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

The PrintJinni app for the Apple gear is printing software that’s lets users print all sorts of files to an Epson printer that has WiFi. The app allows the printing of documents like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and JPEG images all from an email account that is bound to any Epson AIO printer with WiFi.

HP has a similar feature for its web-connected printers where the user can print things from the iPad using an email address. The Epson system lets you email the items you want printed to the printers email addy and the stuff is then printed out. The app supports Gmail, Exchange, MobileMe, AOL, and other IMAP email applications. A free upgrade to iPad native printing will be offered when the native app launches this fall. The app costs $9.99 normally but is available for $6.99 for a limited time.

As is the way of the tech world, we tend to go months without talking about a certain type of product like printers and then all the sudden we see a bunch of new ones in one week. Such has been the case today and Epson has some new printers aimed at small businesses to crow about.

The new printers are in the AIO WorkForce family and include the 635, 633, and 630 all-in-ones. The printers share some of the same features like the world’s fastest printing speeds, dual sided printing, and integrated WiFi.

The printers can produce black pages at 15 ppm and 7.2 ppm in color with dual sided color pages at 4.5 ppm. All of them have Ethernet in addition to WiFi and use fast drying inks. The big differences between the three are that the 633 can print dual sided pages automatically and the 635 can copy, scan, and fax two-sided documents. All of the printers also have a 2.5-inch LCD for viewing images without a computer. The printers will sell for $229.99 for the 635, $199.99 for the 633, and $179.99 for the 630.
