enTourage eDGe digital store closes down

enTourage eDGe digital store closes down

enTourage eDGe users have received some bad news this week. The digital store that is tied to the Android-powered dual screen tablet/eReader has closed its virtual doors. The eDGe went official in November of 2010 so it hasn't been on the market for too long. By many accounts the tablet was mediocre at best, which surely contributed to the early demise of its associated digital store. If you own one of the devices, you aren’t totally out of luck.

Verizon’s Pocket eDGe gets detailed: WiFi-only version confirmed

After Verizon's EnTourage Pocket eDGe was spotted making its first, unofficial debut, the company has relented on its prolonged silence and spilled the details.  The Digital Reader met up with EnTourage and snapped some hands-on pictures - here you see the mini version nestling up with the original eDGe - with the new clamshell confirmed to have a 6-inch E Ink touchscreen on the left and a 7-inch WVGA LCD touchscreen on the right.  Two versions are planned, one WiFi-only and the other with embedded Verizon 3G.

Verizon “Entourage” ereader duo due September

Verizon “Entourage” ereader duo due September

Here's an odd one.  Verizon are already tipped to be offering at least one 10.1-inch tablet later in 2010, and are name-checked as the potential carrier of choice for Sharp's upcoming duo of LCD ebook readers, but according to Engadget's sources the roadmap has two devices billed as "ereaders" on the roadmap for September that are labelled as "Entourage".  That's got them speculating that the devices may be from the same Entourage that produces the dual-screen eDGe ereader.

Entourage eDGe gets reviewed: double-displays but half-baked?

Entourage eDGe gets reviewed: double-displays but half-baked?

As a distinctive dual-display device (running Android no less) there's been plenty of attention on the Entourage eDGe e-reader since it was announced late last year.  Packing a separate E Ink panel with an active digitizer and a touchscreen LCD with the Android UI, Entourage bill the eDGe as the ideal education, reading and research tool.  Over at LAPTOP, however, they're not so sure; they've been reviewing the eDGe, and the end result is a feeling that it's not quite market-ready.

Entourage eDGe early preorders shipping now; everyone else can wait until March

Entourage's dual-display eDGe ereader went up for pre-order a while back, but if you didn't get in there early you shouldn't expect to see your device until sometime in March 2010.  According to the company, anyone who pre-ordered the eDGe before January 12th will have their ereader ship this week, and Entourage have also revealed a few more details about what sort of user experience - specifically battery runtimes - owners can expect.

Entourage eDGe gets software demo [Video]

One of the questions we still had after seeing the Entourage eDGe prototype demonstrated earlier this week was just how integrated the two halves - e-ink display and netbook LCD - were.  NetbookNews have followed up with a second video showing the system in action, and while it doesn't look quite optimized yet it does show how Entourage have leveraged the best of each panel.

Entourage eDGe dual-screen Android ebook reader gets video hands-on

The Barnes & Noble nook will - when it finally starts shipping - be the first dual-display ebook reader that we're aware of, but over in Taipei Entourage have been showing off their own version of a dual-display machine, the eDGe.  Their form-factor is strikingly different from the nook - it looks like a particularly chunky book - with two similarly sized displays, e-ink on the left, a color touchscreen on the right, and NetbookNews grabbed some hands-on time with the working prototype recently.

Entourage eDGe dualbook combines netbook, notepad, and eReader in one cool package

Entourage eDGe dualbook combines netbook, notepad, and eReader in one cool package

I am a big fan of convergence, within reason. I don’t care fro say a camera on my iPod; I don’t see much use for that personally. I would like to see a usable converged device for surfing the net and reading eBooks though. I want it with a larger screen than something like the Kindle though. A company called Entourage Systems has unveiled a new gadget that has my geek lust quite stoked called the enTourage eDGe.
