Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine LEGO Review

Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine LEGO Review

In the spirit of the film series - and partially because we didn’t get the set until very recently - we’ve decided to release our review of the Back to the Future (BTTF) DeLorean Time Machine LEGO CUUSOO set to here, several months after it’s been put on sale. This set is just one of a growing collection created by the minds at "Team BTTF", a set of conceptual LEGO artists that aim to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation and bring Back to the Future to a new generation of fans.

Amazon Fire TV Review

Amazon Fire TV Review

Does the world need another streaming box? Amazon Fire TV argues “yes” and says speed, voice search that actually works, and proper gaming set it apart from the Apple TV, Roku 3, and Google Chromecast. As we’ve seen with the Kindle Fire HDX tablet range, Amazon can certainly build some impressive hardware when it puts its mind to it, but is the Fire TV quite ready for primetime? Read on for our full review.

The LEGO Movie Review

The LEGO Movie Review

I took my 3-year-old daughter to The LEGO Movie this week and she sat through the entire 100-minute film in quiet reverence. End of review. I'm an adult male who grew up with LEGO and, with my daughter, continue to play with and enjoy the creative building toy today - and I was entertained by the movie from start to finish. My daughter and I are two of the types of audience members the creators of this movie appear to have aimed for directly.

Pure Jongo S3 and Jongo T2 Review

Pure Jongo S3 and Jongo T2 Review

Think multi-room audio and your first thought is probably Sonos, but Pure is hoping to change all that. Initially started to demonstrate the wireless chips of parent company Imagination Technologies, Pure has since taken on a life of its own, not only with a line of speakers but a Spotify rivaling on-demand media service too. Still, not for nothing is Sonos known for spanning the worlds of audiophiles, streaming geeks, and mainstream users, so can Pure compete across all three? We've had the Pure Jongo S3, a Sonos PLAY:1 alternative, and the even more affordable Jongo T2 on the SlashGear test bench; read on for our full review.

Korus V600 and V400 wireless speakers review

Korus V600 and V400 wireless speakers review

Korus thinks the audio market needs a new music streaming system. That's an ambitious goal: if you've been in the market for wireless audio recently, you'll undoubtedly have seen a fair few existing options, from Bluetooth (with or without aptX), WiFi, and proprietary options like Apple's AirPlay and Sonos' well-esteemed whole home systems. Korus' two new portable speakers, the V600 and V400, don't use any of them, in fact, but is that a brave decision that pays off in performance, or simply too ambitious a challenge for one start-up to bite off? Read on for the SlashGear review.

PlayStation 4 Review

PlayStation 4 Review

Sony's message this generation is clear: the PlayStation 4 is here to command gaming in the living room. The company does away with any large amount of distractions in all-encompassing entertainment coverage and heads straight and true for the living room-based universe of console games. While you'll be able to work with a variety of ways and means for using the PlayStation 4 in non-traditional senses, here Sony continues its drive for purity, for better or for worse.

Sonos PLAY:1 Review

Sonos PLAY:1 Review

Once upon a time, Sonos was a tough sell. Whole-house streaming audio had its appeal, certainly, but it was also expensive. The wireless audio market has come on strong since the first Sonos all-in-one speaker, the PLAY:5, in 2009 though, and with Apple's AirPlay, not to mention various WiFi and Bluetooth models from rivals, it's time for a new entry-level option, the Sonos PLAY:1. At $199.99 apiece it's Sonos' most affordable speaker yet, billed as not only the ideal accessory for smaller rooms, but well-suited to act as the rear surround pair to the PLAYBAR. Competition is strong, though, so does the PLAY:1 do enough to keep Sonos ahead of the pack? Read on for the full SlashGear review.

LG ET83 Touch 10 LED Monitor Review

LG ET83 Touch 10 LED Monitor Review

The 23-inch Class 10 point touch LED IPS monitor from LG going by code-name 23ET83V-W is more than just a mouthful in name: it's a rather fine piece of equipment made for today's Windows 8-friendly computing universe. The LG ET83 has been working hard on our review desk for more than a week, becoming more than a review device in our common working environment here at SlashGear. Instead of turning this review out with ultra-speed, it became more of everyday experience: this is a monitor I dread having to send back.

VIZIO S4251w 5.1 Sound Bar Review

VIZIO S4251w 5.1 Sound Bar Review

This week we've had a peek at the soon-to-market VIZIO S4251w 5.1 Sound Bar, a speaker unit that comes packaged with a wireless subwoofer, two satellite speakers, and the ability to connect wirelessly (or wired) to your HDTV. While several different wired connections are available, the main sound bar connects with the subwoofer using Bluetooth - and you're able to connect to your television using this system as well.

Sonos PLAYBAR Review

Sonos PLAYBAR Review

Movie and TV audio for music lovers: that's how Sonos describes its new PLAYBAR, the first product from the whole-home audio company to tackle sound that comes with moving pictures, rather than audio for its own sake. Speaker-bars aren't a new concept, but Sonos is aiming to bring some of its near-legendary ease of use to the segment; and, since this is a Sonos speaker after all, it works as a node in your streaming music system too. Perfect extension of the core brand, or a distracting dilution? Read on for the full SlashGear review.
