We've known for a while now that Electronic Arts and BioWare are planning to take Star Wars: The Old Republic free-to-play, but for months, both companies were silent on an actual date for the switch. That all changed today, with Electronic Arts confirming that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going free-to-play worldwide on November 15. That's exactly one week from today, so those of you who have been waiting for the switch don't have much longer to go before it actually happens.

The world of tech didn't come to a halt just because we needed to go out and vote, so in case you missed it, here's the big news from the day. We learned today that HTC and Verizon will be holding a press event on November 13, and it's there that we're expecting to get our first official introduction to the HTC DROID DNA. Speaking of HTC, the company gave us its earnings for October 2012 today, and they aren't looking all that great. Halo 4 officially launched today, but it isn't without its share of server problems, and physical Google Wallet cards have been confirmed on a Google support page.

SimCity arriving March 5 in US, March 8 in Europe
It's been several months since we were told that a new SimCity game would be on its way. Back in March, EA and Maxis announced that a SimCity reboot would be heading to gamers in 2013, but after numerous teasers and a 9-minute-long walkthrough video, it's confirmed that the game will launch on March 5 in the US and three days later across the pond.

While a lot of people may think that social gaming is slowly dying away, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello thinks the contrary. He says that social gaming isn't dying, but rather evolving. Riccitiello was more specific in his answer, stating that the concept of social gaming is overhyped, but the speculation that it's dying is exaggerated.

We've known for a while now that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going free-to-play, but at first, neither BioWare nor Electronics Arts wanted to get into details when it came to restrictions for free players. Borderlands 2 makes strong showing on September software chart
We already took a look at gaming hardware sales for September, so now it's time to pore over the software chart for the month. Unsurprisingly, Madden NFL 13 took the top spot for the month of September, selling over 2.55 million copies according to NPD (via NeoGAF). NPD told GameSpot that Madden NFL 13 sales managed to climb 11% over Madden NFL 12 sales in its first month, which is definitely good news for Electronic Arts and its yearly football franchise.

Visceral Games reportedly working on new MOBA title
Multiplayer online battle arena games - "MOBA" for short - are all the rage these days, and it looks like Dead Space developer Visceral Games is ready to get in on the action. IGN has discovered a series of Visceral job postings on the Gamasutra jobs board that all suggest the developer is looking to craft a free-to-play MOBA title. The game would presumably be released as part of EA's Play4Free division, which means that it could launch on social platforms like Facebook.

Welcome to Thursday evening everyone - just one more work day to go and then we'll have arrived at the weekend. Today we received a pair of invites from Microsoft - one for a Windows 8 launch event happening on October 25, and another for a Windows Phone 8 event happening on October 29.
