Touchscreen Eee PC 901 mod

, Jul 23rd 2008 Discuss [0]

Working on the principle that there can never be too many touchscreen Eee variants, jkkmobile has a new tutorial for adding such a panel to the ASUS Eee PC 901.  The 8.9-inch touchscreen panel itself costs around $70 on eBay (plus shipping); then it's just a case of opening up the 901, locating power and USB connections, and carefully squeezing everything in. Check out the demo video of the touchscreen Eee 901 after the cut Read The Full Story

ASUS Eee PC 1000HD: the 10-inch 900Mhz option nobody asked for

, Jul 22nd 2008 Discuss [1]

ASUS seems to have confused "innovation" and "repetition", since they're apparently committed to churning out every possible combination of Eee PC possible.  Latest to clog up comparison charts is the 1000HD, the dreary offspring of the existing 1000H and 904 models. Read The Full Story

ASUS Eee PC 900 30G suggests straightforward SSD upgrade path

, Jul 21st 2008 Discuss [3]

Further close-up examination of ASUS' latest new facet to the Eee PC range, the hard-drive toting Eee PC 900 30G, suggests the notebook might be more interesting than first believed.  While the prospect of an Eee 900 with the SSD storage swapped out for a more mundane (though slightly larger) 30GB HDD doesn't seem too impressive, Mobile01's pictures of the unit's internal setup reveal that the way ASUS has fitted the drive itself may be the real development.   Read The Full Story

Eee mods & hacks: add Bluetooth, GPS, FM transmitter & more

, Jul 17th 2008 Discuss [0]

If you bought into the ASUS Eee early on, and now are looking enviously at the array of budget ultraportables available today, why not redirect your angst into crafting an upgrade for the compact notebook.  Since there are numerous points on the Eee motherboard where both 3.3v and 5v power can be tapped into, plus some extra space in the casing, adding an internal Bluetooth adaptor, GPS or card reader (to mention just a few) can be relatively straightforward. ASUS Eee PC 900 with 30GB HDD emerges

, Jul 16th 2008 Discuss [1]

It's hard to think of a user left out in the cold from ASUS' vast array of Eee PC netbooks, but the company's Chinese arm seems to have tipped a new version.  Based on the existing Eee PC 900 design, it swaps out the usual 12GB or 20GB of SSD storage and replaces it with a 30GB hard-drive.  Read The Full Story

Tabeee touchscreen slate mod from 7-inch ASUS Eee

, Jul 7th 2008 Discuss [0]

It's already been confirmed that ASUS themselves are working on a touchscreen tablet version of the Eee budget notebook, but over at the OCAU forum they're taking matters into their own hands and constructing an Eee-based slate for ebook reading and web browsing.  Using a cheap 7-inch Eee, the end product - the Tabeee Mk1 - will lose the keyboard and gain a touchscreen (similar to the existing mods). Euro Eee to get 3G this year

, Jul 4th 2008 Discuss [1]

An unnamed internal ASUS source has confirmed that the company is planning a 3G version of the Eee budget ultraportable, intended for the European market.  ASUS was already known to be preparing a WiMAX equipped Eee for the US, but the Euro version will presumably come with HSDPA/HSUPA suited for the 3G frequencies used. ASUS Eee Monitor images break cover

, Jul 2nd 2008 Discuss [0]

ASUS have surreptitiously released official photos of their misleadingly-named Eee Monitor, which in actual fact is not merely an LCD display but a full, all-in-one PC.  The machine, available in black and white, will feature an as-yet unconfirmed processor, likely to follow the trend of ASUS' Eee Box desktop PC and be Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270.  The screen is believed to be 19-21-inches. Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000 are not even in the retail market yet for North America and other places, reports are surfacing that Asus is prepping Eee PC 904 and 905. ASUS Eee PC 901 Linux Edition Review

, Jun 24th 2008 Discuss [22]

If the ASUS Eee 900 basically amounted to a larger-screened version of the 7-inch original, then the Eee 901 marks its graduation into a distinct model.  Packing Intel’s latest 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, in place of the 900′s Celeron 900MHz, ASUS could reasonably have left the rest of the notebook the same and simply added a little to the price.  Thankfully they’ve subjected the 901 to a mild degree of fettling, tweaking case and controls and making for a markedly more attractive proposition.  ASUS sent over the Windows version of the 901; check out what exactly impressed us after the cut.

ASUS Eee Stick Wiimote-alikes hit FCC

, Jun 23rd 2008 Discuss [0]

Someone at ASUS has obviously decided that there's a market for Wiimote-like peripherals, since a filing for the Eee Stick wireless gesture-based controllers has just shown up at the FCC.  According to the report, two Sticks will be supplied - one with a D-pad and the other with an analogue controller - together with a USB dongle using an unnamed 2.4GHz wireless connection. ASUS Eee 1000H upgrade potential assessed

, Jun 23rd 2008 Discuss [2]

The lure of modifying the Eee 1000H was already too much for the TweakTown boys - after all, they'd hardly had ASUS' largest budget ultraportable in the building for a few days before wiping XP and trying out Vista - but they've since taken things one step further and cracked open the casing to take a look at what's inside.  The outcome is surprisingly good; obviously the bigger chassis has left ASUS free to pick some more mainstream components and standardised connectors, making future upgrades a far more realistic proposition.   Read The Full Story
