Asus to debut new thin and sexy Eee at Computex

Netbooks sold in droves to users that wanted portability and basic computing needs in a cheap package. Those netbooks, like the early Eee models, were rather chunky looking though. ASUS Eee PC 1215N gets reviewed: bargain 12-inches

, Aug 31st 2010 Discuss [0]

When is a netbook not really a netbook?  Why, when it gets a desktop version of Intel's Atom CPU, has notebook-style Optimus graphics, and - arguably - a larger display than 10.1-inches.  By those counts, ASUS should be calling their Eee PC 1215N a 12.1-inch ultraportable not a netbook, but then they might put the price up from $499 and, according to Laptop, then we'd be missing out on something of a bargain. Atom N550 benchmarks suggest doubled performance over N450

, Jun 16th 2010 Discuss [2]

It seems ASUS were playing silly beggars at Computex this year, with their demo Eee PC 1015PN and 1015N netbooks both labelled as using Intel Atom N475 processors whereas actually they packed Intel's newer dual-core Atom N550 chips.  NotebookItalia spotted the discrepancy - the correct processors showed up in the system integration - and promptly ran some benchmarks to see quite how much of a boost the N550 brings over previous generation netbooks.  The good news is that the N550 bests not only the N450 but some Intel CULV chips.
