Google, eBay, Facebook, Twitter, PayPal and other big-name sites are contemplating a complete, coordinated blackout in an attempt to call users to arms over SOPA, the Stop Online Privacy Act. “There have been some serious discussions about that” Markham Erickson, head of the NetCoalition group of anti-SOPA organizations told CNET, with the so-called ‘nuclear option’ also being considered by Wikipedia and others.
Sales of the Raspberry Pi computer have begun, albeit on a small scale, with ten of the first $35 boards being allotted to eBay where initial bidding has already exceeded £1,500 ($2,325). Powered by an ARM11 700MHz chip capable of running Quake III, general sales will begin in around a month according to the Raspberry Pi foundation, meaning early-adopters are willing to pay a hefty mark-up to grab one of the initial dev units.

Welcome to the SlashGear Week in Review for week 50, which means we only have two weeks left in 2011! As usual, a lot has happened this week. HP had a fire sale for more TouchPads on eBay and sold out in minutes. The TouchPads sold for $99 for the 16GB versions and $149 for the 32GB with stock selling out in minutes. We learned early in the week that a pair of drunken RIM executives were placed in cuffs during a commercial flight after they got drunk and caused trouble. The pair of execs later escaped from those cuffs by chewing through them.

HP's restarted TouchPad fire sale saw eBay brought to its knees on Sunday, as desperate bargain-hunters swamped the auction site and payments provider PayPal in the hope of scooping a $99 tablet. The deal - announced last week - kicked off at 7pm EST with the 16GB TouchPad at $99 and the 32GB model at $149. Unsurprisingly, the cheaper model was gone within minutes.

The only time the HP TouchPad sold well was when the tablet went on $99 fire sale shortly after it was discontinued. Back when the original TouchPad was announced we had also heard that there would be another flavor of that tablet called the TouchPad Go with a 7-inch screen. Paypal is all set to open a new pop-up store in the trendy streets of downtown Manhattan, New York, to announce and showcase their new payment options and point-of-sale features that are coming soon. PayPal plans to invite local merchants to visit the store, located at 174 Hudson, to experience and see real-time demos of the company's payment processing technology for retail stores, and see it in action how they intend for it to be at brick and mortar stores nationwide.

Samsung Windows 8 developer tablets are showing up on eBay, and if you can judge a platform by how much people are willing to pay for early access to hardware then the signs look reasonably positive for Microsoft's new OS. When a geek happens across something early or really weird that was not meant to leave the inner workings of a company like Apple, they tend to throw it on eBay looking to make some loot off the deal. Such was the case when an eBay seller put a prototype MacBook Pro up on eBay earlier this month. The prototype was notable because it had a 3G antenna and a SIM card slot inside. That 3G connectivity is an option that many people have wanted for a long time on a MacBook.

It's not often that a device of this disturbing a magnitude gets through a month or two being under wraps - much less several years. That appears to be the case though, as this eBay listing shows a MacBook Pro with not only a place inside the laptop to insert a SIM card, but a rather ugly slide-up antenna protruding from the side of the display half of the device as well. This device dates back to 2007, while Apple has yet to produce a laptop with any sort of mobile capabilities other than Wi-Fi connectivity - currently users must purchase mobile hotspots or flip the ON switch for their mobile hotspots on their iPhones.

The competition in the electronic payments market continues to rage, with both Google and eBay looking beyond their current online and mobile payment options in an attempt to coerce more users and vendors to sign up. eBay's PayPal division, Forbes reports, is readying a trial of offline "point of sale" transaction support for brick and mortar retailers that will kick off later in 2011, while Google is setting up a credit card arm, Reuters reports, which will offer advertisers a way to buy ads now and pay for them later.
