Through the backlash of fans and being sued by a former employer of their CTO, Oculus rages on. The device is still not ready for prime time, but edges toward our homes at a slow clip. Oculus’ expectations for the first wave of units on sale to the public? “North of one million”.
Nintendo has had a major impact on E3 this year, coming to the gaming scene with Super Smash Bros updates that’ve inspired companies such as PDP to make high-quality 3rd-party products. PDP have created a set of "Replica GameCube Controllers" officially licensed by Nintendo in a variety of colors. Each of these Wii U-ready controllers is made with a theme from Super Smash Bros Wii U, a game coming to the market this holiday season.
This year’s Nintendo presentation at E3 2014 took a real crack at not only standing up to the competition in Sony and Microsoft, but out-hyping them at several points as well. What you’re about to see is an extended look at what Nintendo brought to the table with trailers - more trailers than you could possibly handle in one sitting!
Later this year, Nintendo will be bringing their own version of the Skylanders toy-to-game concept to life with amiibo. These tiny figurines are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and contain NFC connectivity to interact with your Wii U GamePad. These amiibo figures will also be able to interact with the Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS later this year with a new NFC reader/writer accessory.
This week the creator of some of the biggest names in video games has shown off some of Nintendo’s next big projects. What you’ll see here is Shigeru Miyamoto showing off two titles for Wii U for the near future: Project Giant Robot and Project Guard. At this time it’s not clear if these will be the final names for the games, but they’re ready to play on the E3 2014 show floor, so they must be close to release!
This week the folks at Nintendo responsible for bringing the Virtual Console forward into the future have done their job miraculously with Star Fox 64. This game will be released later this year on the Wii U with full functionality from the original game - and perhaps a few surprises.
There’s a teaser trailer now for DOOM (or DOOM 4), a game that might not appear before the end of the year is up. This teaser trailer teases to no end, giving some hints about storyline and not one whole heck of a lot else. It does look fantastic, of course - and it proves again that DOOM does, indeed, exist.
It’s time for DIY Mario Bros with Mario Maker - the first make-your-own Mario game ever created by Nintendo. This game follows the trend amongst DIY-enthusiasts around the world hoping to make their own video games in the wild - here you’ll be able to make your own Mario-themed levels straight from your own Wii U.
It would appear that Nintendo might have a winner on their hands with the new Zelda title for Wii U with high-definition presentation and an open-world universe. This version of Zelda appears to be a ramped-up Wind Walker, ready to rule the planes with a structure that’s far more vast than any Zelda that’s been presented on any platform before.
