This week the E3 Microsoft keynote has revealed more than just a little bit of information on the most widely anticipated shooter of 2012: Halo 4. This game is now set for November 6th, 2012, and will be developed by Microsoft-owned 343 Industries instead of Bungie Studios. Microsoft showed off a brand new full trailer for the game and made sure the audience understood that this will indeed be the biggest game out since Halo 3.

Xbox SmartGlass official as second-screen feature

At this year's E3 convention, Microsoft revealed Xbox SmartGlass, a feature that will allow Xbox 360 users to view content on multiple devices at once. This feature will allow you to view a movie on a tablet then push it to a larger screen while the tablet continues to provide interesting content related to the movie you've pushed. This technology is not unheard of, groups like Qualcomm showing it off at CES 2012 with AllJoyn, but this iteration is based solely in the Microsoft world.

Wii U Miiverse unveiled: Mobile chat and more

Nintendo has revealed the Miiverse, the company's gaming social system designed to integrate with the   Wii U console, offering avatars, chat, communities and more. Built around the Mii avatars, the Miiverse supports text and handwritten messages that can be accessed via a mobile browser such as on a smartphone or tablet, allowing Wii U gamers to quickly get help from their friends with trickier levels and challenges.

Nintendo reveals Wii U Pro Controller and tweaked tablet

Nintendo has kicked off its E3 2012 showing with an early glimpse of some new Wii U hardware, including the Wii U Pro Controller and a slightly redesigned tablet. The black gamepad eschews the touchscreen of the controller we've seen so far, making it more suitable for classic titles, with a pair of analog sticks, the usual bevy of D-pad and buttons, and a few shoulder triggers for good measure.

Sony mulling cloud gaming purchase

Here’s an interesting little rumor: Sony is reportedly looking into streaming game services, and more specifically aiming to acquire either Gaikai or OnLive. Information has pointed towards Sony purchasing a cloud gaming company and announcing the buy at its E3 conference this coming Monday. Sources have told MCV that Sony is poised to sign an agreement with “a high profile cloud gaming firm.”
