Dish Network have confirmed that their DTVPal DVR will be available to pre-order from next week, with deliveries of the personal video recorder beginning in December. The unit includes an Over The Air (OTA) analog and digital TV tuner with an unspecified recording capacity and 720p/1080i outputs.
Robust interactivity and powerful multimedia processing System-On-Chip will soon feature on next generation IPTV set-top boxes, IP cable set-top boxes, and Blu-ray players thanks to the availability of Sigma Design’s SMP8644. The company has announced its highest performance SOC yet promised to deliver feature-rich SOC at CEATEC show this week. Tru2Way, BR Profile 2.0, Dual SATA-2, USB, Ethernet controller, NAND and NOR flash module controllers are among many features integrated in SMP8644 SOC.
If I were to list one basic feature I’ve always wanted for my TIVO is an integrate User Interface with Picture in Guide (PIG). Little has changed with its interface over the years, picture is obstructed by grid-style onscreen guide while navigating though user menu to retrieve list of recording show or change settings. Competitors such as DirectTV, Dish Network and Cable service carriers have long offering DVR with PIG. That soon to change; Tivo is cooking up a user interface with a complete new look- Featuring PIG with ability to display picture while peruse user guide.
The Godfather of DVR is expanding their DVR technology outside the box. Tivo and Nero have announced a joint venture effort to bring TIVO experience on your personal computer. The recording soft layer application, LiquidTV/TiVo PC will be on sale this October 15th at the price of $99. It’s designed for PC users who already have an existing TV tuner on their computer. The $99 asking price will get you one year subscription to TIVO recording features and program guides, the subsequently renewal will cost you another $99.
Research In Motion and digital video recording service, TIVO are teaming up to offer customized TiVo services for the BlackBerry. The initial phase of the plan will allow TiVo subscribers to access and control their DVR’s schedule and programming detail via BlackBerry phone. The integration is expected to be put in action later this year. Other than that, the companies also mentioned the future development is to simplify and improve mobile access to video content.
No sight of Series 4 with Tru2way just yet but Tivo has announced a brand new premium DVR that comes with extra large recording capacity at Cedia 2008. The XL size of Tivo HD now featured 1TB of storage space (over 150 hours of HD programs), Glo remote and THX-certified just like the S3.
Good news for Tivo fans stuck in Cable mode. The country largest satellite service provider with 17.1- million subscribers, DIRECTV has announced today that they are teaming up with TIVO to develop a new DIRECTV HD DVR featuring TiVo’s recording service. The new TiVo-DirecTV DVR is expected to be available in the second half of 2009. It will support both companies’ features and services but subscriber’s pricing and packaging for the high-definition TiVo-DirecTV product has yet to be determined.

Someone at Panasonic must think retro is back in fashion, as the DMR-BR630V – the company’s latest Blu-ray and DVR combo deck – also manages to include VHS functionality. Presumably intended for people wanting to archive their old VHS tapes onto Blu-ray (or maybe just continue to view a large back-catalogue), the BR630V has a 320GB hard-drive, digital and analog TV tuners and an SD slot.
Sony’s PlayTV DVR for PS3 has been delayed until September 19th. The Sling-box like add-on for PS3 announced last fall was originally planned for a September release.
Let’s get the first hurdle out of the way: SE2 Labs‘ ITC One home entertainment system costs $25,000. Assuming you’ve got that to spend, though, what do you get for your money? How about an XBox 360, Wii, Apple TV, iPod dock and DVR, together with “audiophile grade” mods and power conditioning, all in a single standalone case. Gizmodo spent a little hands-on time with the ITC One, and just as you might imagine came away wondering exactly who it’s aimed at.
