Okay, I just saw something hilarious. Most people know by now that all analog TV signals will be switched over to digital ones come February 2009. And while all the commercials tout the process to be super easy, it may not be so for everyone.

20071114 tv staticWe’ve been hearing about the switch to all digital TV for quite some time now. There’s also been plenty of ads warning us that we need to get a converter box in order to receive TV signals after February 17, 2009.

If you currently have cable, you don’t have to do anything, but if not, you’ll need a DTV box. Most people know this by now. However, an FCC official is now saying the transition will not go as smoothly as everyone had previously hoped.

Quantum have announced a new PMP with digital TV and navigation capabilities, the Video Touch personal TV media player.  Based on a Siano DVB-H receiver, the Video Touch is capable of receiving up to 30 channels of high quality live mobile TV, as well as GPS navigation, in-car assistance, traffic and weather updates, movies, an MP3 player and picture viewing.

As the transition from analog television to digital television goes into effect, if you don’t have a cable box or an HDTV, you’ll be out of luck. But DTV converter boxes make it possible to get your TV signals for free once they switch over to all digital on February 17, 2009. The Apex DT250 is one option for the transition.

You heard it on TV, read it here and local electronic chain stores. Yes, the national DTV transition will be on February 17, 2009. But the folks at Wilmington have early tickets for the switch-over. Starting today at noon, the residents at Wilmington will be the first in the country to experience the digital only broadcast; analog is history.
