Verizon DROID Combat: Herald of a Hardcore Phone

Verizon DROID Combat: Herald of a Hardcore Phone

This week the group behind Verizon's DROID brand have released a trailer for a game that's already been out on the market in BETA form: D:COM. This game is suggested to be coming in as a Verizon-exclusive title in the near future: augmented reality robot combat and all. What's not as clear is the idea that this release might be a sign of an upcoming (and relatively unexpected) smartphone.

Verizon DROID coming soon: Motorola, Samsung, HTC, or LG?

Verizon DROID coming soon: Motorola, Samsung, HTC, or LG?

If it wasn't going to happen with the HTC One, it certainly had to hit Motorola. That's what's happening this week as the infamous @DroidLanding twitter account fires back up for the first time since November of 2011. As the time spread between releases for DROID-branded devices grows long, so does the time before the next grow short: will it be Motorola, HTC, Samsung, or a brand Verizon hasn't graced with its DROID brand yet?

Motorola to launch stock Android phones sized “just right”

Motorola is going to be launching a series of next-gen phones that will forgo Motorola's old, bloated UI, and offer the Stock Android experience instead. In an interview with PC Magazine, Motorola's Design Chief, Jim Wicks, says that the company plans on releasing Google-influenced smartphones to the market the second half of this year. Not only will the phones feature a stock experience, they will also be smaller than the current smartphones on the market.

Watch out Google: Samsung’s Galaxy brand has eclipsed Android

Watch out Google: Samsung’s Galaxy brand has eclipsed Android

It would appear that the Samsung brand push of the name "Galaxy" associated with their Android-toting smartphones and tablets is working so extremely well that this week the hardware name has become more popular than the software. Having a peek at the findings analyst Benedict Evans has found with a few search term trends in Google's own search engine, it's made clear that as the Android search term has risen, so has the term Galaxy. In November of 2012 it's shown that Galaxy was searched more than Android for the first time either term was relevant in search terms across Google's history.

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD hands-on vs RAZR HD

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD hands-on vs RAZR HD

Verizon has been granted a couple more smartphones from the likes of Motorola and Google here with the massive battery-toting DROID RAZR MAXX HD right alongside its near-identical brother the RAZR HD (without so much MAXX). The difference between these two devices is just about as slight as it could possibly get - the MAXX has twice the internal storage (32GB instead of 16) and a giant 3,300mAh battery instead of the 2,530mAh unit the standard HD has. The weight and thickness are absolutely negligible - even when you've got them both in your hands it's difficult to guess which is which, believe it or not.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD spied in Cellebrite system

Motorola DROID RAZR HD spied in Cellebrite system

There have been an increasingly number of Motorola DROID RAZR HD leaks lately. The phone was first revealed as the DROID Fighter back in March, looking awfully similar to the current RAZR but with a larger 4.6-inch screen and 3,300mAh battery. The handset was mentioned again in leaked EXIF data last month, and another leak out of China showed the phone running Ice Cream Sandwich. The device has popped up again, this time in the Cellebrite database.

Motorola RAZR HD coming soon

Motorola RAZR HD coming soon

There's no denying that Motorola has stuck to their guns when they said that the RAZR was a hero for them and that they'd be staying the name for some time to come as this week we're seeing a 720p version called the RAZR HD hit the wild. A couple of photos have been seen over in China at Gfan where this Motorola RAZR HD will be bringing not just 720p, but Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box. Can we expect this titan to hit Verizon just like its predecessors over the past few months?

This device will build on the already massively successful "Incredible" line from HTC and its casing will reflect that success as well.
