We called dmedia a “damp squib” when they failed to show up with their promised WiMAX MID at CES; they countered by tipping a Computex launch, and sure enough the 4.3-inch touchscreen device appeared.  The M0 has a Fujitsu WiMAX module together with a Samsung 533-800MHz CPU and 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, plus a 5-megapixel camera.

dmedia’s G400 WiMAX MID turned out to be something of a damp squib; slated for a triumphant launch at CES 2009 back in January, the touchscreen device ended up a no-show.  Now dmedia is back with what looks to be a refreshed version, the dmedia M0 WiMAX MID.

dmedia G5W PND with WiMAX

Have internet-enabled personal navigation devices – like the Dash Express – failed to see significant adoption because their connection isn’t fast enough?  That seems far-fetched, but something has convinced dmedia to slap WiMAX into their latest PND, the G5W.

From one MID to another; the dmedia G400 may not boast quite the range of wireless technologies as the UMID MID (WiBro being the obvious omission) but with WiMAX present that’s still more 4G capability than many people have the coverage for.  With a choice of 3.8 or 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreens, GPS, WiFi, HSDPA and Bluetooth, the G400 errs on the side of media functionality rather than trying to put a tiny version of your office in your pocket.
