SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 10, 2012

Welcome to Wednesday evening, everyone. Today Samsung sent out formal invites to its upcoming Galaxy Note II press event in New York City, and we were told that HTC will be backing out of the US tablet market, at least for a little while. RIM is trying to lure developers into BlackBerry 10 with a new "$10K Developer Committment," in which RIM says it will give developers $10,000 if their app reaches $1,000 in sales. RIM also opened up app submissions for BlackBerry 10 developers today, and we heard that the rumored LG Nexus 4 smartphone may be making its debut on October 29.

Gearbox: Borderlands 2 rank reset bug not connected to DLC

Gearbox: Borderlands 2 rank reset bug not connected to DLC

Yesterday, we told you that Gearbox had released the highly anticipated Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 a week early, which is good. Unfortunately, a number of users were reporting that the DLC and the patch that goes along with it were wiping badass ranks, skins, heads, golden keys, and in some particularly nasty cases, character saves, which is bad. Today, however, Gearbox is saying that the DLC and the rank reset bug aren't actually connected, which is simply a relief.

Well this is a surprise: Gearbox has released the Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 a week early. It was originally scheduled to go live across Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on October 16, but it appears that Gearbox has finished it up a little ahead of schedule. If you pre-ordered Borderlands 2, the Mechromancer DLC is a free bonus as part of your membership in the Premiere Club, whereas everyone else with have to pay $10.

Skyrim: Hearthfire now on PC, no new updates on Dawnguard PS3

Skyrim: Hearthfire now on PC, no new updates on Dawnguard PS3

Skyrim's second serving of DLC, Hearthfire, launched on PC today, meaning that eager homebuilders can get to work constructing their dream house (or at least something resembling their dream house). Hearthfire costs the same on Steam as it does on Xbox 360 - $5 - and for that paltry amount, you get to buy up plots of land, collect raw materials, and then use those materials to build a house, which could potentially include things like a greenhouse or an armory. You can also move your spouse into your freshly-built home and, if you really want your Skyrim experience to mirror real life, adopt children.

Dawnguard PS3 development woes have Sony giving Bethesda a helping hand

Dawnguard PS3 development woes have Sony giving Bethesda a helping hand

It isn't exactly a secret by now that Bethesda is having some major issues with the PS3 version of Skyrim: Dawnguard. PS3 players are being left out in the cold thanks to a number of technical problems Bethesda is facing with the console, and the studio said a few weeks back that it may not be able to release the DLC if it can't figure out a fix for these issues. At the time, Bethesda said that it had been working closely with Sony to solve the issue, a statement that SCEA VP of publisher relations Adam Boyes echoed when recently speaking to Kotaku.

Hearthfire DLC for Skyrim available on Xbox 360 now

Hearthfire DLC for Skyrim available on Xbox 360 now

Skyrim's latest DLC, Hearthfire, launches on Xbox 360 today, and it seems to pack a lot into a tiny download. The DLC, which lets you collect raw materials to build your dream home and adopt children (among other things), weighs in at only 75MB, meaning that it should be a pretty quick download for most folks. The pack is budget-priced too as it costs a mere 400 MSP, leading us to believe that this is a tiny DLC bonus meant to tide us over while we wait for the next expansion-like Skyrim DLC pack.

Borderlands 2 Mechromancer DLC release date outed by Gearbox

The release of the highly-anticipated Borderlands 2 is just two short weeks away, and it won't be long after that September 18 release that the game gets its first DLC. We've known for a while that this DLC will add a new class - the Mechromancer - but what we didn't know is when it will launch. This weekend at PAX Prime, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford finally gave an actual date, saying that the pack will be available "by October 16."

Dawnguard PS3 may not see release as problems persist

Dawnguard PS3 may not see release as problems persist

PS3 owners have been waiting, some more patiently than others, for their version of Dawnguard to arrive. Skyrim's first DLC has been available on PC for a while now and Xbox 360 for even longer, but Bethesda delayed the PS3 version earlier this month because it wasn't satisfied with the expansion's performance. Unfortunately, it looks like those problems with Dawnguard on PS3 aren't going away, and in a new statement, Bethesda seems to hint that the PS3 might miss out on a release entirely as a result.
