DivX and MediaTek Inc announced today that the MediaTek MT8530 has become the world's first DivX Plus certified chip for powering Blu-ray players.

The CinemaTube has gone up for pre-order today. It’s a media player that connects to your tv, and gives you the ability to watch stored movies, pictures, and other videos right from the box. No longer have to worry about physical media anymore, just in case you were one of those people who thought that the way of the disk was for dinosaurs. Media is going the digital way, and Brite-View wants you to get there in the high definition way.

Samsung have taken the wraps off of a vast, super-skinny plasma HDTV, the Samsung 850 PAVV.  Measuring a scant 29mm thick – enough for Samsung to describe it as “finger slim” – the 50-inch 850 PAVV PDP TV can cope with full HD 1080p content, as well as having a USB 2.0 port for DivX video playback.

LG Korea have announced a new range of HDTVs, the LG XCanvas LH70 series.  Release this week in Korea, the new ‘Scarlet’ LH70 is available in 32, 37, 42 and 47-inch sizes, measuring just 39.7mm and 40.9mm deep respectively, but still managed to include integrated Bluetooth, DivX support and 10,000,000:1 contrast ratios.

After details leaked last week, and LG themselves teased the device’s existence, the company has finally come clean and announced the LG Arena KM900.  The touchscreen handset will officially debut at Mobile World Congress in a week’s time, but we now know that it will feature 7.2Mbps 3G HSDPA, WiFi, A-GPS and the company’s new 3D S-Class User Interface.

Toshiba only brought along two working TG01 prototypes to the London launch of the Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone today, but SlashGear managed to get some in-use shots of the handset in action.  The company is betting on consumers prioritising style, screen size and multimedia ability above all else, and while their claims to have created a “new category of product” can be dismissed as the usual marketing hyperbole, the Toshiba TG01 itself looks to be a very interesting device.

DivX logoDivx is positioned to become a standard feature on Blu-ray devices. The company and Pioneer have collaborated to enable DivX video support on three Pioneer Blu-Ray players, namely the BDP-LX71, BDP-LX08 and BDP-51FD. Joining PS3 and twenty others Divx approved Blu-ray players already in the markets, the trio of Hi-Def players allow consumers to playback DivX video burned on CDs or DVDs.

DivX logo The Blu-ray enthusiasts may prefer Anchor bay or silicon Optic over Panasonic’s in-house UniPhier when it comes to video processing; they may have to live without the hope of full HD Divx support at present. Divx, Inc has knighted the Panasonic UniPhier(R) System LSI with Full 1080p DivX HD Certification for use in the latest Blu-ray devices.

Panasonic will re-engineer current Blu-ray production, DMP-BD30 with Divx capability and release in Europe and Russia as DMP-BD30EG/EE. The company is very positive toward the industry first Dvix certified Blu-Ray player and hopes the popular digital media format bring in more support for Blu-Ray. Continued »
