We’ve a soft-spot for USB-connecting mini LCD displays – they’re a nifty way to get Photoshop toolbars, IM windows, Twitter apps and other windows off your main display but keep them readily visible – so we’re glad to see more options hitting the market.  DoubleSight have three sub-displays to choose from, starting from the 7-inch DS-70U and then breaking into the hitherto unusual 9-inch segment with the DS-90U and DS-90UC.

Lenovo have quietly launched a USB to DVI monitor adapter based on DisplayLink’s virtual video card technology, that promises up to 1,920 x 1,200 WUXGA output – supporting 1080p High-Definition video – via a single USB connection.  Up to six of the adapters can be used on a single computer (three if you have a ThinkPad with switchable graphics) in addition to the machines’ native video outputs.

nanovision mimo 710 S usb displayNanovision have updated their range of MIMO USB LCD sub-displays with a new travel-friendly model.  The Nanovision MIMO 710-S “Mobile Slider” keeps the same 800 x 480 resolution 7-inch LCD display from the existing range, but pairs it with a new folding, twisting clamshell stand that can be used to protect the display during transit.

That’s handy, because these mini-displays perhaps make most sense when used to add a little more screen real-estate to a laptop.  Connecting via USB and using the DisplayLink virtual monitor system rather than a computer’s own video card, the 710-S boasts 350 cd/m2 brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio.

Century have announced an update to their range of USB LCD companion displays, in the shape of the Plus One LCD-8000UD.  Ostensibly identical in functionality to last December’s LCD-8000U, the 8-inch 800 x 600 display now includes DVI as well as USB connectivity.

The UMID M1 mBook’s keyboard prompted no small amount of discussion among MID-lovers, primarily as to whether it was of sufficient size for reasonable typing.  We even recorded our own typing video demo to get a better idea.  Simmering in the background, though, was a more aesthetic concern: UMID’s decision to pair every case color with the same white keyboard.  Now, the company has seemingly listened to reason, and offered up an all-black version of the M1 mBook.

A few weeks ago, Samsung Korea launched a series of low profile external LCD monitors intended to serve as notebook or netbook companion displays.  Essentially, it’s a same LCD display as in Samsung’s current notebooks, but with adjustable height: when it stands, it’s as tall as your laptop to ensure everything lines up with no offset.  However there’s more technology gone into the LapFit than the design; it also comes equipped with Samsung’s UbiSync technology aka the DisplayLink USB graphic chip embedded into the display, enabling plug-n-play monitor expansion via a simple USB connection. Last week SlashGear was offered an exclusive preview of the new breed of Samsung SyncMaster, a 19-inch LapFit dubbed the D190SU, and we took the bait.
