Fujitsu 22-inch Wireless Displays cut all the cords

Fujitsu has unveiled what the company is calling the "world's first truly wireless display," using a combination of cable-cutting wireless data and an inductive power system. Set to go on show at CeBIT 2011 this week, and expected to spawn commercial displays "within the next year," the Wireless 22-inch Fujitsu screens use SUPA (Smart Universal Power Access) hotspots built into desks, countertops and office panels. From everything Apple told us about the developer release of Mac OS X Lion yesterday, we were already excited. The AirDrop instant sharing tool promises the sort of straightforward simplicity we've grown to expect from the company, and the various usability tweaks carried over from iOS should see the platform become an interesting hybrid of sorts. iDisplay Transforms Your Android Device Into A Second Monitor

Shape Services has launched the Android version of its iDisplay app which allows Android smartphones and tablets to become secondary monitors for your computer. While the app may not be ideal for use with smartphones given their small screensize, but using iDisplay on a Xoom or an iPad would be very nice. iDisplay is already out on iOS and works on both Windows and Macs. Apple OLED ambitions tipped by patent applications?

Apple has filed three OLED patent applications, leading to speculation that the company is looking to the low-power, color-rich panels for future devices. Patently Apple due up three patents (20100321305, 20100265187 and 20100265188) which deal with integrating touchscreen layers with OLED displays, and which suggest MacBook-style notebooks, iPad-style tablets and iPhone and iPod-style smartphones and PMPs as potential recipients of the tech. Apple's recently revealed $3.9bn investment is tipped to be in display manufacturing and development, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who goes on to suggest that the company's increasing panel focus indicates an Apple HDTV is still on the way.
