Disney has snapped up game engine developer Rocket Pack, whose plugin-free browser-based HTML5 system allows for easy coding with just JavaScript and CSS. According to TechCrunch the terms of the deal have not been made public, though Rocket Pack are believed to have been scooped for between $10m and $20m; Disney's interest likely stems from the potential flexibility in creating cross-platform, install-free games that don't need App Store approval to be distributed.

Disney has bought social network Togetherville today for an undisclosed amount. Disney is combining the popularity of social networks with its popularity amongst kids. Togetherville operates just like other social networking sites and uses Facebook to enable connections, but the target users are kids aged 10 and under.

Netflix grab ABC and Disney streaming content
Netflix has announced a new licensing deal with Disney-ABC Television Group, which will see ABC Network, Disney Channel and ABC Family streaming content available to Netflix's subscribers. The deal will include titles such as Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters and Desperate Housewives, but also include Disney Channel and ABC Family movies such as High School Musical, High School Musical 2 and Camp Rock.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game Landing in Stores May 2011
What started as a Star Wars phenomenon, has certainly grown. There are now LEGO-themed video games for franchises like Indiana Jones, Batman, and even Rock Band. Gowalla Disney deal announced as the Magic Kingdom checks-in
Gowalla has inked a deal with Disney, which will see visitors to Disney parks able to check-in at over 100 locations across Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California, earning featured stamps as you go. The Gowalla Passport pages will show what's happening at the parks, together with maps, check-in streams and other special items, and each ride or attraction can be automatically tweeted or announced on Facebook.

VUDU offer streaming Toy Story 3 to Walmart disc buyers
VUDU and Walmart have partnered to provide digital versions of content bought in DVD or Blu-ray format, though to begin with only Disney's Toy Story 3 will be on offer. Anybody buying a physical copy of the film in Walmart stores will be able to enter a bundled download code at VUDU's site, and access a digital copy that streams to your VUDU hardware or software player.

Studios Contemplating $30 Option for Viewing Movies at Home Before DVD Launch
After seeing a movie in theaters, some people immediately start counting down the days until they can officially purchase the movie on DVD or in any other media. And while on-demand services, from companies like In Demand, offer up movies "still in theaters," these are usually priced higher than the other movies in their catalog, and don't necessarily count the more popular films. And perhaps that's exactly why some movie studios are contemplating an in-home option for consumers, which would see them charging $30 for viewing a movie before it gets released on DVD.
