Dish Network to axe more Blockbuster retail stores

When Dish Network purchased the ailing Blockbuster rental chain last year, it had planned to keep about 90% of the stores around the country open. That means that 10% of the stores fell under the knife straight away and were closed. Dish Network noted at CES that it was set to axe every one of the stores around the country not making money.

DISH Network Hopper and Joey multi-zone DVR system revealed

DISH Network has revealed its new whole-house high definition DVR system, the bizarrely named Hopper and Joey, consisting of a main DVR base station and multiple smaller STBs. Hopper can record up to six HD channels simultaneously to its 2TB of internal storage, funneling that to individual Joey boxes that are connected via your home's existing co-axial cabling. Meanwhile an ecosystem of Sling adapters, online management through the browser and the DISH Remote Access apps allow for access outside of the home.

AT&T, T-Mobile consider deal re-cut, Dish steps in

AT&T, T-Mobile consider deal re-cut, Dish steps in

For months now we've been hearing that AT&T and T-Mobile have been going back and forth with various investigatory boards, the FCC, the Department of Justice, their grandmothers, and today its come to light that AT&T is considering "recutting" its original $39 billion dollar deal for T-Mobile USA in light of U.S. antitrust authorities ever-rising opposition. The antitrust case at hand has been postponed in face of the possible recutting, and both AT&T and the Justice Department have joined in asking the judge to postpone all proceedings in the court until January 18th, 2012 -- that way everyone can take a rest and drink some egg-nog while they mull everything over.

Dish considering Sprint or Clearwire acquisition

Sprint and Clearwire are not doing well and neither is their partnerships to bring WiMax 4G service to the masses. No Matter Who Owns Blockbuster, It’s a Joke

No Matter Who Owns Blockbuster, It’s a Joke

Like many others, I’ve been extremely critical of Blockbuster over the years. I’ve felt that the company has failed to see the changing times, and has generally lost all sense of what consumers are after.

So, when Dish acquired Blockbuster earlier this year, I thought it might be a good thing for the formerly dominant rental firm. I thought that Dish could find a way to revive Blockbuster’s ailing business model, and return it to a place where it would no longer be viewed as a joke.

Hulu sale could fall through after low-ball bids amidst other issues

The Hulu sale may be at risk amidst recent developments, including low-ball bids, a lack of commitment to sell by Hulu's owners, and digital rights complications. The premium online video service is a joint venture between content providers Fox, Disney, and NBC Universal and has so far seen interest from Yahoo, Google, Amazon, DirecTV, and Dish Network among others.

Dish Network Tailgater lets you throw a tailgate party in style

I am not the sort to throw a tailgate party. I prefer to watch sporting events from home because the seats that are always in the price range I am willing to spend at a live venue suck. If you like to have the real event ambiance, but don’t want to cough up the money for the tickets to a football game or a baseball game the Dish Network Tailgater will let you throw a party in style.

TiVo, Dish Network, EchoStar announce settlement of patent suit

The patent dispute between Dish Network, TiVo, and EchoStar has been raging on for a while now. The last time we spoke about the suit was in late April when the court presiding over the case ruled in TiVo's favor. The ruling to disable offending devices was split 7-5 in favor of disabling. To avoid many potentially angry customers EchoStar and Dish Network has settled the litigation with TiVo, and the settlement was certainly not cheap for them.
