GPS-enabled Pentax K20D DSLR imminent?

Rumors are circulating that Pentax are preparing to announce a GPS-enabled version of their K20D DSLR.  Greek site FullHD have published details from what they claim to be a leaked press release, officially expected later on today; the K20D is a 14.6-megapixel waterproof camera and, with the GPS accessory, would be able to automatically geotag each image taken. Canon will address 5D Mark II’s “Black Dot” Issues soon

Though not as serious as the Mark III’s auto-focus disaster, the black dots are persistent on the new Canon 5D squeal. Frustrated photographers took it up with USA technical adviser Chuck Westfall at The Digital Journalist and the man spoke, "Watch for an official Canon comment on this issue in the very near future" RG, in his brief interview with Westfall, also confirmed Canon is prepping to address the 5D mark II’s black dots debacle that've been widely spread on numerous community forums. No further details were disclosed but it would be a positive announcement. Well, if they’ve learned anything from Mark III; it’s wiser to break silence on founded technical difficulties, another case of lack-of-response could be the last straw that breaks the camel's back. Zigview gets update with S2 Live, now supports Live View

Broad line of DSLRs are currently supporting Live view but none of the lineup from Canon or Nikon offering a tilt/swivel LCD screen where it makes more sense. I’m just saying, it could be a whole lot more useful. If shooting though LCD screen suits you better, Zigview has updated it Zigview S2 with S2 Live to support Live view and extend it connectivity range. Instead of capturing images from the viewfinder, S2 Live acquires the video feed directly from DSLRs on its 230.000 pixel LCD screen that offers a variety of settings such as brightness, color/B&W and the images can be rotated by 180 degree. Another nice feature of the S2 is its remote shutter function that’s capable of triggering your camera with remote release, motion-release or interval release from a distance. Read The Full Story

Nikon D3x Sensor is Manufactured by Sony

Nikon has officially responded to the question many have asked about who manufactured its Nikon D3x CMOS sensor. It is indeed manufactured by Sony; however Nikon clarified that they design the CMOS sensor. Here is the official statement from Nikon:

The Nikon D3X’s 24.5-megapixel FX-format (35.9 x 24.0mm) CMOS sensor was developed expressly for the D3X in accordance with Nikon’s stringent engineering requirements and performance standards, with final production executed by Sony. Featuring refined low-noise characteristics, 12 and 14 bit output, Live View capability and more, the D3X’s unique sensor design was carefully blueprinted to perform in perfect concert with proprietary Nikon technologies including EXPEED Image Processing and the Scene Recognition System. Meticulous efforts allowed the sensor to become one of the many essential components and technologies which contribute to the D3X’s superior image fidelity.

Canon took a huge beating on its latest Mark III DSLRs’ flagships with the controversial Auto-Focus snafu. Make no mistake; the newest release and much-promising 5D sequel if continue to face technicalities, will tear them into pieces, losing more prominent domination in pro as well as prosumer markets. Early reports in favor of the improved AF, white balance and high ISO sensitivity despite the increased sensor sizes; however, like most cameras at its initial rollout, 5D mark II can’t escape the early-adopter bugs. The Japan-based Greenhouse has launched a new series of high speed Compact Flash GH-CF-GTX at 300x transfer speed. Four models of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB are available. Unlike the professional models from Sandisk’s Ducati or Lexar’s Pro, it’s the company much affordable model but does come equipped with a dual-channel UDMA data access chip which works best for digital single-lens reflex cameras or card reader with UDMA support. Nikon D3X Flagship Digital SLR gets Official

You know it’s the real deal when the leak came out of a print magazine, especially an in-house one. It’s official: Nikon Japan today announced its flagship Digital SLR, D3X with 24.5MP FX full frame sensor. It’s the company highest pixel-count digital SLR, 3.4 MP larger than rivalry Canon’s 1Ds Mark III but one-tenth megapixel smaller than Sony’s Alpha A900. The professional series camera is loaded with 3.0-inch, 920,000 dot LCD monitor with dual-mode Live View, 51-point AF, sealed body, Dual-UDMA CF slot, 16 bits EXPEED image processing and can shot up to five frame per second in full resolution still image capture. Nikon have revealed their new D3x DSLR camera, and chosen a somewhat old-skool way to do so: their print magazine, Nikon Pro.  The 24.5-megapixel, FX-format camera is capable of 5fps at full resolution or 10-megapixel shots at up to 7fps.  However there aren't the huge leaps in specification or capabilities that many would-be owners were hoping for.
