Here’s some love for Alpha shooters without breaking the bank likes the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T*. Sigma Japan has revealed shipping date for A Mount version of 24-70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM large fixed aperture zoom lens by end of this Month.

Last year, Sigma unveiled a line of telephoto zoom lenses at PMA 2008 with HSM and OS (mechanical Optical Stabilizer). This year at PMA 2009, Sigma is adding wider angles to its new series of zoom lenses, ranging from 10mm to 250mm.

As busy weeks go, this one has certainly been something to write home about (or at least a Week in Review about), with CeBIT, PMA and an Apple mega-announcement all taking place. ASUS arguably stole the former show in Germany, with the Eee PC 1008HA “Shell” once again proving that netbooks needn’t be the ugly cousins to expensive ultraportable notebooks. For our full CeBIT 2009 coverage, hit the tag.

Samsung’s hybrid NX series camera has proved to be one of the biggest events of PMA this year. Launched one day prior to the show opening, technical details were scarce in the press release. Cousin to the Micro 4/3 standard, the Samsung platform uses a full time electronic viewfinder, eliminating the need for a bulky mirror box and optical viewfinder to allow for a smarter and lighter hybrid DSLR. We dropped by the Samsung booth during the show to find out more.

Not quite a point & shoot, not quite a DSLR; Samsung’s new NX-series claims to offer the plus-points of both. The key is Samsung’s Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), which replaces the traditional mirror box found in a DSLR and therefore allows the whole NX to be far more compact. It also offers Live View framing.
Despite the PMA 2009 is less than a week away, Tamron have not revealed anything new for PMA 2009 yet. But recently, the company has quietly announced the EF-mount for its long-awaited SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II ultra wide zoom lens in Japan.

Olympus has today announced a new Four Thirds standard entry-level DSLR with features and price that would put smiles on many fans’ faces. The E-620 packed many of the features from E-30, which included the newly developed 12.3 MP “Live MOS” image sensor and a 2.7-inch tilt-swivel LCD, in a smaller and lighter chassis.

Architecture and wide landscape photographers take note, Canon has announced a pair of tilt and shift lenses, TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and an ultra-wide TS-E 17mm f/4L today. These two new lenses features new barrel design, UD glass, specially coated aspherical elements, and Canon’s latest SWC to have better control over the positioning of the focal plane while keeping optics distortion at minimum.

The Canon 5D Mark II launched six months ago but it didn’t get shipped until late November, and today, it’s still nowhere to be found. There’s no question that the 21mp DSLR is incredibly high in demand, and logically, you wouldn’t be able to find any discounts on this camera; but now you can.
Canon USA has launched a $200 MIR program for a list of products which includes the newest EOS 5D Mark II DSLR. It’s slightly tricky, as you have to purchase an additional Speedlite 580 EX II and a high dollar (nearly $1000) lens to be eligible for the rebate. Nevertheless, those are must have items for a much-serious photography, they worth every penny and now you can take advantage of an additional saving.

Our thought on Nikon’s lack of interest in much faster primes than the newly announced DX 35mm 1.8G could change this year, and probably around the PMA 2009. In an interview with folks from DPR, the Nikon’s Europe Region lenses product manager, Ludovic Drean, has revealed company’s plan to release more DSLR lenses by this year.
According to Drean, “ this [refer to AF-S DX 35mm F1.8 ] is not the lens announcement we’ll making this year” but details were thin on lenses focus distance and format.
Nikon has recently covered the 35mm digitally optimized DX, and 50mm Nikkor AF-S with field of view equivalent to about 50mm and 75mm lens on a 35mm sensor size camera. Would there be another affordable large aperture DX-format fast prime at wider end, says 20ish? Or they will finally get to fill one of the many holes in FX line-up, or a combination of both ? I’m sure the Nikonians are dreaming on a AF-S F1.2G for a very long time now.
