Nikon D700 DSLR on sale now

The much-rumored Nikon D700 DSLR, with its 12.1-megapixel FX-format sensor, Nikon’s EXPEED Image Processing System, 51-point auto focus system with 3D Focus Tracking and two Live View shooting modes, was promised for the end of July, and true to their word it's starting to show up at online retailers.  RitzCamera currently have the D700 as available now, albeit with limited stock, and at the full list price of $2,999.95 for the body only. After masses of speculation, supposedly-leaked photos and pre-announcement website slips, Nikon have finally made their D700 DSLR official.  As expected, it packs a 12.1-megapixel FX-format sensor, Nikon's EXPEED Image Processing System, a 51-point auto focus system with 3D Focus Tracking and two Live View shooting modes for the 3-inch preview display. Nikon D700 DSLR launching Monday 30th June says retailer

After the price leaked earlier on today, the Nikon D700 release date seems to have emerged too.  Courtesy of online retailer Digital Depot, it now looks like the 12.1-megapixel DSLR will launch on Monday 30th June.

The Nikon D700 rumors continue to drip out, and while the authenticity of the recent photos we've seen has been contested, there seems little doubt that the DSLR itself exists in some form.  Now equipment supplier Photografica have put up their price listing for the D700, which suggests the 12.1-megapixel camera will run to $3477 (without VAT). A photo purporting to be of Nikon's upcoming D700 DSLR camera, complete with a new version of the company's 24-120mm lens, has surfaced on a Chinese blog.  If the image is authentic, it confirms that the camera will have a pop-up flash.  Last week supposed promo material documenting the camera turned up. Documents claimed to be pre-announcement promotional material regarding Nikon's new D700 DSLR camera have shown up, looking pretty crumpled, at Photography Bay.  As rumors go, this one seems to have legs; consensus opinion is that both the images and the copy are highly believable.  If it's all true, we now know that the D700 is an FX Format 12.1-megapixel body using Nikon's EXPEED image processor. Canon EOS Rebel XS 10MP entry-level D-SLR

Canon's EOS Rebel XSi, the twelve-megapixel D-SLR announced back in January, has gained a sibling in the form of the Rebel XS.  Replacing the existing Rebel XT, the XS increases the resolution from 8 to 10-megapixels and the preview screen from 1.8 to 2.5-inches.  It also gains the XSi's Live View, which allows photographers to frame their shots via the LCD rather than having to use the optical viewfinder. Canon DSLR fuel-cell patent; is MTI Micro their hardware partner?

Canon have filed a patent that describes a compact fuel-cell system primarily intended for DSLR cameras but that has potential for inclusion in other portable electronics.  The filing details the company's solution to dealing with variances in load currents, an issue in applications such as DSLRs where sudden surges in power draw are frequent.  It uses a number of individual fuel cells combined, with a DC-DC converter that combines the voltages as required. Olympus E-520 10MP dSLR with image stabilization

Olympus have announced their latest digital SLR camera, the E-520. An update to the existing E-510, the new E-520 slots in as the big brother to the popular E-420. With the same 10-megapixel Live MOS 17.3 x 13.0mm sensor capable of ISO 100 to 1600 as the E-420, the new dSLR adds sensor-shift stabilization, an increased continuous-shooting buffer (up from 6 RAW shots to 8) and new grip. Canon EOS 5D Mark II premature leak rumor

Rumors are rife that Canon's German site has accidentally released information about the upcoming EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR. According to the story the mention was spotted and a screengrab saved before Canon realised and edited the page. Specs for the Mark II are given as a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with the company's DIGIC III processor and waterproof casing.
