Panasonic’s upcoming Lumix GF1 Micro Four Thirds camera has been spotted on a Chinese forum, seemingly a more compact alternative to the company’s Lumix G1.  More retro in design than the G1, the GF1 is lacking just about anything in the way of hard specifications right now, but it obviously supports interchangeable lenses together with what looks to be a pop-up flash.

Nikon’s Coolpix S1000pj projector-camera may only have got the official nod from the company this morning, but that hasn’t stopped Stuff.TV from going hands-on with the 12.1-megapixel shooter already.  They found the S1000pj to be surprisingly good fun, with the VGA quality from the pico-projector making up in communal usability what it lacks in visual fidelity.

It’s turning into quite the day of DSLRs, but if you thought Nikon’s $1800 D300S was expensive, how about a Leica that starts at over $26k?  The company have announced pricing for their 2009 S-System line-up, and as you might expect for a 37.5-megapixel DSLR body it’s a costly prospect.  Leica will make two versions of the S-System body, the standard S2 and the S2-P which adds a sapphire glass display and “Platinum Service” support package.

It’s not  just Nikon’s flagship D300S new today; the company has also unveiled an entry-level DSLR, the Nikon D3000, aimed at getting new photographers addicted.  The 10.2-megapixel camera uses an 11-point autofocus system, DX-format sensor and EXPEED image processing, but the most interesting feature for beginners will be the Guide mode.  Not just an automatic setup, Guide mode promises to explain why different settings should be chosen; yes, that’s right, it’s a teacher trapped inside your DSLR.
