Ricoh has just unveiled a new premium compact digital camera that it is touting to have DSLR qualities. Monoprice has launched its new MHD Sport 2.0 Wi-Fi Action Camera, a small GoPro-like device that includes a wearable viewfinder called the Live View RF Wrist Remote (the wearable is optional, however). The action camera is available now, and includes a waterproof housing for mounting the camera and using it in adverse conditions, as well as under water. As with competing models, the camera can record video at different resolutions including Full HD, and can create time lapse videos from still images.

Panasonic Lumix CM1 camera runs Android, launches in US

Panasonic has launched its Lumix DMC-CM1 hybrid camera in the United States, where it will be selling the device at its retailers and online. The CM1 is unique because of its different assembly of features — there’s a 1-inch camera sensor, for starters, as well as Android and an unlocked GSM smartphone capability, making this a mobile device and camera all-in-one, but in a way that is different from your typical smartphone. The 1-inch sensor in particular enables the camera to take higher quality images than typical mobile cameras.

Sony a7R II includes full frame 42MP sensor, lauches in August

Camera makers have been busy introducing new models today, and among them is Sony, which has already taken the wraps off a couple models. Newest among it all is the maker’s Sony Alpha 7R II, a mirrorless offering featuring a full-frame BSI CMOS sensor and a 42.4 megapixel resolution. Says Sony, this is the first ever back-illuminated Exmor R full-frame CMOS sensor, and it boasts a very high ISO of 102,400. In addition, Sony promises the auto focus is faster than the previous a7R, with 399 focal plane phase detection auto focus points.

Leica Q unveiled: a compact camera with full-frame sensor

Leica has announced its new Leica Q camera, a digital shooter that is hailed as offering the fastest lens in its class. The new Q is a hybrid of sorts, sporting a compact design and easy to use interface alongside the image quality you get with the maker’s “M” lineup, including a full-frame sensor and optical image stabilization. Joining this is a new feature called “digital frame selector”, which allows the photographer to display the focal lengths (35 and 50mm) by pressing a button. The camera was made in Germany.

Sony RX10 II boasts support for long 4K video recording

Sony has introduced a pair of new cameras, the RX100 IV and the RX10 II camera. The RX10 II is a high-zoom shooter with the same 1.0 type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor as the other aforementioned model, though it has a larger, more robust body than the RX100 IV's compact design. Sony says this model includes both a DRAM memory chip and fast signal processing, the combination of which results in 5x faster image data readout and other pro-level features.

Gekkopod is a flexible, wrappable camera and phone tripod

Tripods are becoming increasingly flexible, and Gekkopod is perhaps the best example of that. The Gekkopod tripod can hold a smartphone and a regular camera (though not at the same time) and be positioned just about anywhere the user would like — wrapped around the end of a long stick to be used as a selfie stick, around a tree branch to record some event, or on a flat but angular surface. The idea is that you can use the Gekkopod in a variety of situations that would otherwise necessitate many mounting accessories.

The next version of the Ricoh GR camera, the aptly named Ricoh GR II, has surfaced ahead of its official launch. An alleged picture of the camera has surfaced in a leak, and if it is the real deal it seems the maker will be offering a second model that looks very similar the first iteration (though there are some subtle differences). It is a PR image, and so assuming it is real, its existence likely points towards a nearing official announcement.

Xiaomi launches night vision edition of its Yi camera

In early march, Xiaomi introduced its GoPro competitor, the inexpensively priced Yi action camera. Recently the Chinese company launched a complement to the Yi, a new model that brings with it a more traditional webcam-like design alongside night vision capabilities. It is called the Xiaomi Yi Camera Night Vision Edition, and it will be going up for sale in certain regions starting tomorrow via the company's Mi.com online store. The original Yi camera was introduced at MWC 2015.
