Chevrolet has sold its first 2014 Corvette Stingray for a cool $1.1 million to Rick Hendrick, who owns a NASCAR team. The sale took place at the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Arizona shortly after the vehicle was unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Hendrick will receive the car this summer – complete with all the customization he wants – when it enters production later in the year.

The Barrett-Jackson auction was a charity event, with the sales going to Detroit’s College for Creative Studies, which has produced many auto designers for General Motors. In addition to the 2014 Corvette was a 1958 model, which is reported to have sold for over a quarter of a million dollars for a Habitat for Humanity Detroit neighborhood. A total of 21 cars were sold at the auction.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray marks Chevy’s seventh generation of the popular vehicle, which boasts a 450-horsepower V8 engine and six-speed auto transmission (or seven-speed for those nabbing the manual version). No official word has been given on its pricing, but according to NBC, it is expected to have a starting price below $55,000.

Earlier this month, gamers got to take the Stingray for a virtual spin via Gran Turismo 5 after Chevy and Polyphony Digital struck a deal. The digital version of the car was carefully designed to be bear the tiniest details about the vehicle – both inside and out – and to even handle in a manner similar to the actual car. Gamers can get their hands on the virtual model for free.

After suffering a fall in sales in 2012, Cadillac is planning to double its line-up through 2016, according to sources who are familiar with the proceeding. As part of the plan, Cadillac is looking at rolling out 10 crossover and car models over the next four years, which includes what could end up being its flagship sedan. Cadillac declined offering a statement on the claims.

Cadillac plans to start its model roll outs with an ELR hybrid at the end of 2013, which is said to be a sophisticated big brother to the Chevrolet Volt. Other potential vehicles that would be released over the next few years include a small car said to be a “take on BMW’s 1-Series”, as well as a small crossover. While Cadillac declined commenting on the specifics of the rumor, it did give an affirmative nod at the question of whether it will be expanding its lineup.

This is reported to be an effort on Cadillac’s part to establish itself as a luxury brand globally, a goal that was corroborated by the company’s vice president at the Detroit auto show. Presently, 75-percent of Cadillac’s sales come from the the US, which has dropped steadily over the last couple years. Some critics have expressed doubt that it can establish itself globally, with the managing director of 2935 Analytics stating that he wasn’t convinced Cadillac can pull it off.

Cadillac Global’s Vice President Bob Ferguson said at the Detroit Auto Show: “We’re saying it over and over and over that we want Cadillac to be a truly global luxury brand. We have the core of a very good product set now and we’re working hard at examining the options to make it even better. You can expect a more robust lineup.”

The next generation Ford Lincoln MKC compact crossover vehicle has been tipped to be appearing for the first time at the Detroit Auto Show 2013. This vehicle has been said to be appearing by the Detroit Bureau where they’re confident that this downsized crossover-utility vehicle will be one of many similar vehicles to be showing their face for the first time officially. The MKC has been said to be sharing many features with the Ford Escape (as pictured below) save for many luxury features that’ve been cut out to make this machine more affordable for the mass market.

The Ford Motor Company will be bringing four new Lincoln luxury vehicles to the market between here and 2014, the MKC being one of them. There’s also a new MKZ planned, so says the same source, this being accompanied by a replacement for the larger MKS. The fourth vehicle has been tipped to be a complete replacement for the full-sized Navigator SUV.

The 2013 Lincoln MKZ that’s been out in the public eye for some time now is set as a precursor for the MKC, both vehicles said to be working with many of the same features, top to bottom. The MKC is said to be working with the same horizontal grille as its predecessor and will have the same C-segment platform as the Ford Escape and the Ford Focus. The new Lincoln MKZ has been tipped to be working with several different powertrain options including the Ford 2.0-liter EcoBoost or possibly the 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost.

We’ll be seeing this vehicle within the next few weeks if not straight up in-person at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. This show also goes by the name North American International Auto Show and is set to be a massive display of excellence from car and truck brands from left to right, as always.
