, Jan 17th 2011 Discuss [5]

Combining devices, gadgets, or ideas into one useful object is something that more companies should try and implement. Of course, getting the idea out of the concept stage is tough, especially if you're a designer that hasn't been picked up by a huge company. For Wonchul Hwang, the concept design for the AA USB is something that many people would probably find some use in. Read The Full Story

Yacht Concept Shows That Huge Boats Can Fly [Video]

, Jan 14th 2011 Discuss [0]

Yachts are generally a good way for a concept to become reality. There's generally enough money being tossed around at any given moment on a yacht that, say, including an iPad-controlled thermostat (and many other functions) just seems logical, and not superfluous. But, there's a line where you have to look at a design, especially for something like a yacht, and just shake your head. Perhaps even roll up the plans, and start working on something else. For designer Phil Pauley, having a dream is one thing -- but making it a reality is something entirely different. Read The Full Story

InteraXon Demonstrates Controlling an iPad with Your Thoughts [Video]

, Jan 14th 2011 Discuss [0]

There's been gadgets in the past, that have allowed for an object to be controlled with our "thoughts," thanks to a certain type of headband that we put on. And this new idea from InteraXon isn't the first we've seen in the "mind-control" department for iOS-based devices. But, this isn't the Canadian-based company's first foray into the idea of thought-based actions making our every day usage of devices all that better, either. They first showed off their in-flight entertainment system, controlled merely by thought, last year. And now they're setting their sites on the iPad. Read The Full Story

ScentSciences ScentScape Lets You Smell the Movies You Watch, the Videogames You Play

, Jan 14th 2011 Discuss [0]

Immersion is part of what makes movies, and some of the best videogames, so enjoyable. Kickstarter has seen a lot of cool gadgets recently, all finding their way onto the site to help get money raised for the designer's (hopefully) great idea. iPod Nano watches, and then edible Jelloware cups. All of which have spent their time on Kickstarter, trying to find "backers" to invest in the idea, and bring it to life. Engineering Students Create Cheap Way to Tell When Water is Safe to Drink

, Dec 27th 2010 Discuss [1]

There's one way that will usually make a concept go from a plan to the real deal pretty quickly: make it cheap. While some concept designs may focus on helping the environment, or finding new ways to help humans in certain situations, they may make it too impractical due to costs. But, if you can manage to create something that is practical and costs less than five dollars to make, we're pretty sure that means you've got a winner on your hands. At least, that's what students from the University of Washington are hoping. Read The Full Story
