Babel Fisk Speech to Text Glasses Will Show the Deaf What Someone Says in Real Time

, Aug 31st 2010 Discuss [0]

For the hearing impaired, getting along in an every day situation, amongst a crowd of people that don't necessarily have the same impairment may be an issue. And while many can read lips, that may not be the easiest way to go about things. Especially considering not everyone moves their lips the same way to make the same words, which can be a real pain. But, fear not, because a new designer has just come up with a great way to alleviate all of those problems, and all you need to do is wear some glasses. Read The Full Story

Awesome Dolphin Hydrofoil is the jet ski of the future

With summer still in full swing, I bet there are lots of you out there who head to the lake each weekend and spend it flying around the water on a personal watercraft. I have spent a bit of time on a jet ski this summer and I think most guys that ride them will tell you in rough water they can be rough on your boys. Read The Full Story

Cloud-based storage for realz

Design concepts are at times weird and at times interesting. This new design concept is a bit of both bringing cloud storage into the real world. The little shelves are called Shelf Cumulus and they look like puffy white clouds. Read The Full Story

Babyoom Turns from Stroller to Tricycle, Includes Shopping Cart Too

, Aug 26th 2010 Discuss [4]

A concept design for the baby market, in which the device in question transforms from one thing to another, isn't all that new. The true-blue design has to come from somewhere, right? And while many cribs out there change from their original model to a toddler bed, and sometimes even beyond, a stroller tends to stay a stroller more often than not. So you'll have to welcome the Babyoom into the baby circle; it's designed to carry your baby in the traditional stroller, and then become something a lot more furn for them later in life. USB wall socket concept should be included in housing code

Just about every gadget I have can be charged from a USB port. The number of things that charges using USB is always growing too. A new concept wall outlet has a normal plug (normal for Europe anyway) and a couple USB ports as well. Read The Full Story

SixthSense Equipped GPS Navigation Pendant Will Help You Through Airports

, Aug 20th 2010 Discuss [0]

Navigation units aren't meant for just the car or hikers anymore. As we've seen in other design concepts in the past, putting the units on your body, and helping you along right on the street level is becoming a hot trend lately. This time around, we've got a new design from a senior at Western Washington University, in Bellevue, Washington, working towards his B.S. in Industrial Design (with a minor in Sustainable Design). His name is Benjamin Peterson, and he's bringing a lot of technology into a small pendant meant to hang in front of your chest. Read The Full Story

Universal Translator is More Science-Fiction Than Reality

, Aug 20th 2010 Discuss [1]

In most situations, when you look at a design concept, you're supposed to get the sense that some day, at some point in the (perhaps distant) future, you'll be able to get your hands on this. Just like we saw with Sony's design for their Eclipse media management device. This one, though. Well, we can safely say that it's really a concept. Not that it's not cool -- because it's a great idea, but we're just wondering if the designer had one too many drinks while they were watching their favorite Sci-Fi flick. Read The Full Story

Sony Eclipse Concept Design Offers Solar Powered Wireless Media Management

, Aug 20th 2010 Discuss [0]

As far as concepts go, this one's sitting at the top of the hill, at least until it gets dethroned soon enough. Brought to you by Sony, the Eclipse is designed to give you a truly wireless, and eco-friendly way to manage --and listen to-- your media. And considering we know we're not the only ones out there that hate wires, we imagine that something like this would be a smash hit. Read The Full Story

OOoo chair is the dumbest design concept ever

If you are a designer and you are going to design something, it actually has to be something you design. I just don't think that cutting a hole in the floor and calling it a chair counts as product design. Yet, that is exactly what the designer of the OOoo chair did. Read The Full Story

Concept nutcracker uses gravity and metal to do the deed

When I was a kid, we used to pick up all the pecans behind my grandmother's house and mostly we threw them at each other's heads. On occasion, we would try to crack them for a snack. Typically, that involved stomping on them until the shell broke and we could eat the nut. Read The Full Story

Periscope Camera Extends the Lens and Bends the Frame of Creativity

, Aug 18th 2010 Discuss [4]

Let's face it. There's not a lot of differentiation between cameras. Amongst the point-and-shoots, and amidst the masses of DSLRs, they generally all look alike. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if you start looking at all the color options of those point-and-shoots, but we need something different! And, right on schedule, we've got a DSLR that's unique enough to grab our attention. Read The Full Story

Dot Wristwatch Features LED Time Telling, More Bracelet Than Watch

, Aug 16th 2010 Discuss [0]

We're not sure when it happened, but apparently the move to make your wristwatch look more like a bracelet than, say, a watch is apparently taking off. This time around, it's the "Dot" wristwatch, utilizing LED technology to bring you the latest time without much effort at all. What makes it more bracelet than watch, too, is the fact that it's created from perforated rubber, and not some ridiculous amount of metal. Read The Full Story
