Despite having announced a plethora of over-the-ear headphones last week, Denon isn’t quite finished yet. This time around, the company has unveiled their brand new AH-NDC-800 models. The headphones manage to pack plenty of features into the cans, making sure that when you see the price tag, you don’t freak out. At least they tried, anyway, with features like dual noise cancelling.

The AH-NC800 were designed with the “human factor” in mind, according to Denon. That basically means that the headphones were created “based on precise scientific modeling and anatomical measurements of the human head.” Which, to Denon, means that there should be no gap between the person’s head, and the band on top of it. The goal, ultimately, is to make wearing the headphones more comfortable, so you won’t want to take them off.

The new dual noise cancelling technology means that the noise from outside your headphones is cut by up to 99 percent, thanks to two microphones that cancel the noise from not only outside, but also on the inside. You’ll find high-quality 42mm drivers, and detachable OFC cables with gold-plated plugs, and you’ll get up to 40 hours of noise cancelling bliss for one AAA battery. Denon also included their audio restorer technology, making sure the sound is as crisp as it can be. The AH-NC800 headphones are set to land in the UK some time in October, and they’ll cost you £250

All of the new on ear and in ear models support the iPhone and iPod with inline controls for volume and track and a mic for voice calls. The controls will also work on the iPad. The construction of both over the ear models uses aluminum and they have foam cushions for the ear pads and very little gap between the band of the headphones and the wearers head for more comfort.

The in-ear models have metal or plastic construction combined with an elastomer for the housing. The earphones also have noise dampening technology called Radial Cascade Damper to reduce noise from touched cables. They also ship with multiple ear tip sizes and soft foam earpieces as well. The new headphones will ship soon according to Denon.

While there’s plenty of room for the home media manufacturers out there to make brand new things to feature the recently announced AirPlay from Apple, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a few of the “oldie-but-goodie” systems out there need to be completely forgotten. The AVR-4311CI from Denon is set to get optimized for the newest wireless media streaming service.

The news comes from Denon’s product listing, which just got updated itself. The update to the AVR-431CI is set to drop some time this Fall, but there’s no exact date given at this time. And, as you probably already know, the AirPlay functionality will allow you to stream your music wirelessly, and easily enough, to the system. While it’s great enough that Denon’s unit is getting the upgrade, it might now be safe to assume that other “older” models can get the update, too. So, while the new home audio systems might be enticing in their own right, if you’ve already got your favorite unit in your house and don’t feel like buying something new, it may pay out to just wait a little bit.

Press Release:

DENON® REAFFIRMS LEADERSHIP IN ADVANCED A/V RECEIVERS WITH TEN NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE MODELS

– Upgraded Line Offers A/V Enhancements and More Advanced Technologies at Lower Price Points; Ideal Home Entertainment Solutions for Every Consumer Need and Budget–

Mahwah, NJ, April 26, 2010 – Denon Electronics, a premier manufacturer of high-quality home entertainment components celebrating 100 years of innovation and technology leadership in 2010, today announced its new line of advanced audio/video receivers with ten state-of-the-art offerings. The lineup features five new affordable, fully featured priced models in the company’s popular Retail Home Theater Series line, with expected SRP and availability in parenthesis, including the AVR-991 (SRP: $999, July), AVR-891 (SRP: $799, May), AVR-791 (SRP: $499, May), AVR-591 (SRP: $349, May) and the AVR-391 (SRP: $249, July). These join two new, more advanced 7-channel Models, the AVR-1911 (SRP: $599, June), and AVR-1611 (SRP: $399, June). Also announced are Denon’s three new “CI-class” receivers (see separate release) geared toward custom integrators, including the AVR-4311CI (SRP: $1,999, Sept.), AVR-3311CI (SRP: $1,199, June), and AVR-2311CI (SRP: $899, June). The new models will join Denon’s AVR-4810CI (SRP: $2,999) and flagship AVR-5308CI (SRP: $5,500) in the company’s renowned line of A/V receivers, as well as the company’s advanced CI separates including the AVP-A1HDCI (SRP: $7,500) 12 Channel A/V Preamplifier and POA-A1HDCI (SRP: $7,500) Fully Balanced Power Amplifier.

Major Enhancements Throughout the Line
Among the significant enhancements made to all new Denon receivers is the inclusion of HDMI v1.4a Repeater Inputs with 3D (all mandated formats), Audio Return Channel and CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) support. All models, except the AVR-391, feature analog-to-HDMI conversion and HD Audio decoding from Dolby and dts, and many feature advanced multi-zone networking capabilities. Simple one-cable HDMI connections add to simplicity of use, and Dolby Pro Logic IIz decoding on all models provides for the enhanced audio experience of front height channels. The new receivers are also engineered throughout to provide consumers with all the features and capabilities they need to enjoy maximum compatibility with today’s home entertainment source components. For example, iPod connectivity is featured in all models throughout the line, with the AVR-1911, AVR-791 and higher models adding iPod Digital Direct via USB, which is also ‘Works with iPhone’ certified.

All models feature an updated easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) or On-Screen Display that make the steps of system setup, operation and displaying other important information much easier for the end user. Notably, the new models all feature on-screen display (OSD) or GUI overlay via the HDMI connection – eliminating the frustrating necessity of additional cable switching or programming interruptions when making adjustments, such as volume, while watching HD content. Further enhancing ease-of-use, all models feature Source/Quick Select Power On and Quick Select options on the front panel and remote control to give end users one button source, surround mode selection.

In keeping with Denon’s commitment to eco-friendly engineering throughout its product line, the standby power of all new receivers is below 0.1 watts, helping eliminate unnecessary power usage.

Denon A/V Receivers: The Culmination of 100 Years of Innovation
The audio/video receiver is at the heart of Denon’s ongoing mission to enhance and expand the home entertainment experience for discriminating consumers. Noted Phil Cohn, the company’s Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing: “Denon’s 100-year legacy has been distinguished by breakthrough technological innovation at virtually every stage of the evolution of home entertainment, particularly in our advanced audio/video receivers. This year’s product line expresses our expertise and drive for innovation, giving people new ways to experience their entertainment, from a dramatically enhanced surround sound experience to interactive web access, multi-zone networking and more. Importantly, our receivers also give content creators inspiring ways to reach audiences with their artistic creations as they were intended to be experienced, including music, movies, games and more.”

New Retail Home Theater Series Models: High-Value, High-Performance
Denon’s Retail Home Theater Series line for 2010 provides discriminating consumers with a host of upgraded features and capabilities at affordable prices. The line now features three 7-channel models (AVR-791, AVR-891, AVR-991), as well as two 5-channel models (AVR-591, AVR-391). All five offer many of the same high-quality features and capabilities that distinguish Denon receivers in the marketplace, including some of those found in the company’s CI models. Notably, the AVR-991 features Audyssey DSX with Front Height or Width Channels with Sirius Satellite Radio Ready capability, as well as being the least expensive Denon AVR with advanced networking that adds an RJ-45 Ethernet Port for third-party controllers, Mac/PC audio streaming, Internet Radio, Pandora, Flickr, a Web browser function and more. All models feature 24-bit/192-kHz Analog Devices DACs, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey MultEQ. All include analog-to-HDMI video conversion, while AVR-791 and higher feature 12-bit video processing and scaling from Anchor Bay Technologies (ABT).

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding in the new Retail Home Theater Series models allow for stunning delivery of today’s most advanced high-definition audio programming. Model AVR-991 features Anchor Bay Technologies advanced video deinterlacing and upscaling, converting SD sources to HD. And thanks to the dedicated Denon iPod dock accessory control port on all models, users may connect and control their iPod/iPod Touch or iPhone using one of Denon’s available iPod/iPhone docks, which provides on-screen artist, album and song information.

AVR-1911 and AVR-1611: Multi-Zone Functionality, HD Radio and More
Denon’s AVR-1911 AVR-1611 7-channel receivers represent the leading edge of today’s revolution in home entertainment system building. Both offer full two-zone A/V distribution capabilities, allowing users to enjoy a movie in full surround sound in the living room while listening to music distributed to a den or bedroom.* The AVR-1911 adds the advanced capability of a built-in HD Radio tuner, as well as iPod Direct Connectivity via USB and the most advanced Anchor Bay Technologies video deinterlacing and upscaling chipset for converting SD sources to HD.

As for “3D Readiness”, that’s because the players won’t actually get full 3D support until a firmware update this coming fall. Still, until then (and of course you’ll need a 3D-capable TV too) you can entertain yourself with DLNA streaming, YouTube and Netflix access, and built-in BD Live and “Bonus View” functionality.

There’s also a USB port and ethernet connection, while the top-spec DBP-2011UDCI also packs Burr-Brown 32-Bit, 192-kHz Audio DACs on all channels. The Denon DBP-2011UDCI will arrive in August 2010, priced at $799, while the Denon DBP-1611UD will come in June for $399.

Weakening foreign currencies against soaring yen are slowly affecting the prices of Made-In-Japan electronic goods, globally; even the already high-price Denon flagship DVD-A1UD Universal Blu-Ray player can’t escape the reality. For the latter, there’s more frustrating news than price adjustment, the Japanese firm has once again postponing the launch of the World’s first Universal desk, but this time, much further behind to mid of October.

This is the second time Denon puts off the launch of the long-awaited flagship Universal desk. The Japanese release was first set to be shipped in February, but later delayed to March and today announcement will put in further back to October. That means US buyers will have to wait much longer (again) and the same goes for European release.

The Denon DVD-A1UD, originally retailed at $4,200 for US market and €4,000 for Europe regions, now has raised to $4,500 and €5,000 respectively. Who knows how much it will cost again in October?

On the other hand, counterpart, Oppo BDP-83 with lesser features but 85% more affordable has launched an Early Adoption Program for early adopters. However, both are having issues to finalize the shipping date.

Given the ratio of DVD player owners to Blu-ray player owners, you could argue that any of the high-definition decks are “high end”; however Denon Japan have announced what they’re claiming is the world’s first high end Blu-ray universal player. The posh title is to take into account that the DVD-A1UD is capable not only of playing the usual Blu-ray and DVD video discs, but also DVD-audio, SACD and standard CDs. It also comes with the company’s DENON Link 4th technology, which apparently improves performance even from standard-definition sources.

Connectivity includes two HDMI 1.3 ports, component video, S-video, composite video, optical digital audio, coaxial digital, balanced two-channel stereo analog audio, ethernet, an SD card slot and a serial port, together with a DENON LINK port. Thankfully the whole thing can be updated with new firmware, as in its current configuration the DVD-A1UD doesn’t support BD-Live.

Denon are promising the DVD-A1UD in Japan by the end of January 2009, priced at 546,000 yen ($5,879) in black or silver. A European launch will follow in March 2009, priced at €4,000 ($5,046).

In netbooks, ASUS slipped in a few new models at both the low and high-end of the market, with the Eee PC 900HA and 904HA offering bargain 160GB storage while the S101 corners the more-fashionable (and expensive) end. That’s a niche the ASUS N10 already occupies; that netbook ran the review gauntlet this week, proving “technologically clever” but simply too expensive. ASUS – and MSI, whose Wind U90 was panned too – must be looking enviably at Gigabyte’s M912M convertible touchscreen netbook, which was good enough to pull a credit card from the wallet of one reviewer.

Moving from small screens to large, Panasonic wheeled out their 150-inch plasma prototype and promptly gave every child within a forty mile radius square eyes. At $140,000 it’s even more expensive than the new Lamborghini Estoque concept – the company’s first four-door saloon, and a 170mph one at that – I know which I’d prefer.

On smaller wheels, but then with a smaller price-tag, WowWee’s Rovio WiFi robot came out shining in reviews this week, and could just be the toy to beat come the holidays.

In cellphones, Nokia finally debuted their S60 Touch OS in the shape of the 5800 XpressMusic. A touchscreen multimedia device with HSDPA and, from next year, Comes With Music – offering unlimited audio downloads for 12 months – it’s not going to challenge the iPhone but the consensus is that it’s a sign of good things to come from the Finns.

Speaking of good things to come, how about Denon’s flagship SACD player? It looks to be hewn almost from solid aluminum and should have equally reliable audio performance. Less convincing is the recently-leaked Amazon Kindle 2 ebook; has the retail giant taken a step backward with ergonomics, in mistakenly chasing aesthetics?

SlashGear also brought you an interview with the Sleek Audio guys, on the eve of their lossless wireless system; we’ll have the full review of their SA6 earphones this coming week. We also featured a hands-on report of ShopSavvy, the award winning Android app running live on the T-Mobile G1. Finally, because it’s always fun to see expensive things falling great heights, check out this Samsung SSD drop-test demo. A three-story fall and yet it still works? I’m not sure we could say the same about anything else from this week.

Denon announced today at Tokyo International Audio Show with a high performance SACD and redbook player. A Flagship DCD-SX SACD player features a multitude of technical advancements and battleship-like construction quality designed to meet the demands of most discriminating audiophiles.

The reference SX series SACD player employs company’s newly developed Advanced Alpha 32 Processing, a sonic enhancement 16-to-32-bit algorithm with precision upconvert and reduce distortion at micro-level. Independent Power circuitry is designed to provide full separation for digital and analogue sections. Another option is Denon’s DAC Master Clock’s oscillator circuit with extremely low jitter providing precise timing for the D-to-A conversion process.

To maintain superior audio reproduction, Denon has constructed the DCD-SX with a low center gravity and high-rigidity aluminum frame and beam chassis combine with an in-house high precision Advanced SVH Mechanism. The heavy weight and high damping chassis is designed to reduce unwanted resonance and vibration to prevent audio interference during optical pickup.

The unit is fully-balanced with 32 bit/192khz DAC stereo outputs available for single RCA or balanced outputs. The 3rd generation Denon Link is also provided to deliver high quality multichannel SACD in DSD bitstream for compatible AVR or preamp processor. Availability is late November, the Denon DCD-SX weights nearly 60lb and has a retail price of 800,000 yen($7,638)

The new DVD-1800BD only supports Bonus-View (profile 1.1) and bitstream of all HD audio codec including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio but guess what. It is retailed at $749! But for that price, they will kindly throw in Burr-Brown DACs for two channel analog output. Nice!

Are you kidding me? A Lower-cost, entry level features Blu-Ray Disc player but priced at $749? Without a superior DAC for full 7.1 channels and internal audio decoder, there is no reason to get a $749 Blu-Ray player that supports only HD audio bitstream. A cheaper and more feature equipped Sony S-350 or ps3 will do better. Remind me why I miss the Format War, the price was far more competitive.

Inside the woven jacketing (which you should expect to see on the Milan catwalks next season) lie luscious strands of high-purity copper wire and tin-bearing alloy shielding. But the woven sheath isn’t just there to look fierce, oh no; it helps avoid vibrations. I can’t count the number of times my home entertainment experience has been ruined by stray vibrations.

Best of all, Denon have added “signal directional markings” which ensure “optimum signal transfer”. I’ve a horrible feeling that they mean the little double-ended arrow on one of the plugs, which at least makes sure you don’t try to plug it in sideways. Because seriously, that happens.

I’m calling this a joke and I won’t believe anything otherwise. The idea of Denon being so stupid is just too much to bear, otherwise.

It’s coming this month, to the US and Japan, the only question is if you can. Afford the $1999 price tag that’s requested, however it’s an investment that won’t soon be bested.

Denon is pushing the release date on the $1,999 Blu-ray player further to March. The flagship DVD-3800BDCI announced back in July 2007 featuring onboard DTS-MA decoder and 7.1 analog outputs was suppose to make its first appearance last Fall. It was put off to late December due to Denon uncertainty in Blu-Ray forecast, which I doubt it has anything to do with Paramount decision to back HD-DVD exclusively…Right! It will be a great match-up against Marantz BD8002 which will be released around the same time; we just have to wait until Spring break. The delay doesn’t affect Blu-ray transport DVD-2500BT. But hey, I’m all for it if that is what it’ll take to add a RJ-45 (profile 2.0… but in my dream)

Previously they had the C700, and now they have the C551, which other than being 2 millimeters shorter, also has some punchier mids. What they have in common is the Acoustic Optimizer, a reflex port for your headphones, it keeps the air pressure balanced and makes them sound better.

They also retain the machined aluminum bodies and the gold plated connections. If you lust for a pair, such a pleasure will cost you about £70 or close to $140.

This device is amazing, especially if you live in a confined space. So it comes with the main receiver unit two stereo speakers and a subwoofer. However, it offers up virtual surround sound through those two stereo speakers.

On top of that it has an upscaling DVD player that will upscale up to 1080p for you. There is an HDMI port for that to play through and there are USB ports for connecting media players, thumb drives, so on and so forth. The best news is after the jump.

It also has WiFi. That means you can conveniently stream audio from any of your computers or even Internet Radio. Power wise its nothing spectacular with 50 watts each for the stereo speakers and 100 watts for the sub. You can get it now for 1250 pounds.

In a show of remarkable solidarity, Denon has released some Blu-Ray disc players at CEDIA 2007 today – astounding everyone who had forgotten that the format existed and were too busy distracting themselves by salivating on Apple Store windows. The so-called “reference standard” DVD-3800BDCI (and what a snappy name that is) takes the award for being the “world’s first BD-ROM Profile 1 version 1.1 Blu-ray Disc Player from a Blu-Ray Disc Association member featuring the acclaimed 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset.”

While that might seem a bit of a niche claim to fame, the performance from the 3800 should make you forget the hyperbole. Denon are calling it the highest resolution high-definition video currently available through an HDMI connection, and they’ve paired it with high-def audio decoding and DDSC-HD audio output.

There’s a junior version, the DVD-2500BTC, which lacks the onboard video/audio decoder and requires an external receiver, but that otherwise offers the BD-ROM Profile 1 version 1.1 support.

Both models should be available this Fall, priced at $1,999 for the DVD-3800BDCI and $1,199 for the DVD-2500BTC.

If you like the look of Denon’s network media streamers but don’t have an existing HiFi setup to connect one to, then take a look at what else the company has announced at CEDIA 2007 today. Added to the S-Series – Denon’s range of compact, all-in-one systems – the S-52 and S-32 have wireless connectivity to your home network to stream audio either from a computer, NAS or internet radio.

Both also have a built-in iPod dock for playback from the PMP as well as recharging it, and there’s a scroll-wheel on the devices themselves to make navigation of radio stations or tracklists quick and easy. MP3, WAV, WMV, AAC and FLAC formats are supported, as well as tracks from the subscription-based Rhapsody service.

The S-52 adds a slot-load CD player, HD radio tuner with multicasting ability, a USB host port for connecting thumb drives or external hard-drives so as to play their content, and is satellite radio ready via subscription-based hardware.

The S-52 and S-32 will ship in October 2007 for $699 and $499 respectively.

A phrase I hate is “wife acceptance factor” (WAF) – the degree to which a gadget is permitted home space by virtue of its ease of use, attractiveness or general benefits – when really what we’re talking about is non-technophile acceptance factor. Surround-sound setups are a good example of this; yes, the average SlashGear reader will put up with the wires and sprouting speakers because the audio is worth it, but others are less forgiving. So Denon’s DHT-FS3 Active Surround Sound System is likely to win admirers among the gadget-savvy and otherwise, being a discrete black bar that sits under your TV and gives the impression of a full cavalcade of speakers.

With a five channel amplifier built-in, giving 25W per channel plus 50W for the super-slim subwoofer, it uses X-Space Surround to emulate the traditional speaker setup. Three digital and one analog inputs should be enough for the target audience, and there’s an optional iPod dock for the ubiquitous Apple PMP. The whole thing can be wall-mounted, and there’s a nifty hidden LCD display that, when powered off, is covered by the speaker grill.

The DHT-FS3 is available now for $1,199

You’re nobody in the media world until you can stream songs from one corner of the house to another, and HiFi mainstay Denon have obviously had enough of the playground taunts. At CEDIA 2007 today they’re launching two networked A/V products, one wired and one wireless, that not only will allow you to play music stored elsewhere on your home network but also from your iPod via an on-board dock.

Connecting to an existing HiFi, TV input or standalone speaker of any brand, the ASD-3N (wired) and ASD-3W (wireless) lack onboard speakers of any sort; however, the full colour screen will display album artwork and photographs as well as song metadata.

In terms of track format compatibility, the units will happily play MP3, non-protected AAC and PlaysForSure-encoded music; they’ll also recharge any iPod placed in the dock while at the same time playing tracks stored on it. S-Video and analog audio outputs should see it compatible with most entertainment systems, but if you have a Denon receiver made after 2007 you can hook it up to the “dock control port” and control the streamer via the receiver’s remote.

Both should be available this month, with the ASD-3N priced at $179.99 and the ASD-3W at $229.99
