Gorilla Glass Demo [PLUS: How Gorilla Glass Works - Chemically!]

, Nov 19th 2010 Discuss [6]

As you might already know, our man in the field Vincent was at PEPCOM last night checkin out all the fun electronics – but what was also there? Some sweet, undefeatable Gorilla Glass! This is the sort of glass the toughest devices with screens are apt to use – definitely not a low-grade situation. Gorilla Glass is made to last. Not to scratch, and definitely not to break. Over to the Gorilla Glass table last night and we were treated to a lovely demo by a nice man who let Vincent demo the glass by doing no less than attempting his hardest to break it. Fun!

Intel Moorestown Moblin v2.1 MID gets hands-on demo [Video]

, Sep 25th 2009 Discuss [1]

Intel have rolled out plenty of mockups, conceptual art, non-functional prototypes and fancy slides over the past few months to show us what Moblin running on a Moorsetown-based MID might look like, but we've had to wait until IDF this past week to get a decent sighting of the platform in action.  MID Moves sat down with an Inventec prototype running Moblin 2.1; you can see their hands-on video after the cut. Microsoft Zune HD Shows Marketplace Apps at Best Buy Demo

, Aug 23rd 2009 Discuss [0]

Did you happen to make it into a select few Best Buy stores over the weekend? If so, did you get a chance to stare at/touch/play with a Zune HD? We certainly hope so. But! If you didn't get that great of an opportunity, then it looks like a video might just have to cut it for now. And why is this video so amazing, other than giving you another look at the sexy piece of gadgetry? It shows off the Marketplace on the device, and then right there, smack-dab in the middle: Apps. Samsung Mondi Mobile WiMAX Device First-impressions

It seems a long time since we played with a non-functional prototype of Samsung’s Mondi WiMAX MID back at Mobile World Congress in February.  Only last week the Windows Mobile 6.1 handheld saw its official launch, to take advantage of Clearwire’s slowly spreading CLEAR WiMAX network, so imagine our surprise when a Mondi dropped, unannounced, through the SlashGear letterbox.  After the cut, check out our walkthrough video and an initial hands-on gallery, together with some early feedback in advance of our full review.

Samsung UltraTOUCH and BEAT DJ hands on

, Feb 16th 2009 Discuss [0]

We grabbed some hands-on time with Samsung’s new UltraTOUCH flagship feature phone and the BEAT DJ music phone today, and there’s some seriously impressive AMOLED action going on in both devices.  The UltraTOUCH S8300 looks pretty certain to be a hit in Europe, where it will go on sale as the Tocco Ultra Edition.  TouchWiz may be on top of Samsung’s generic own-brand OS, but it’s reasonably responsive and the whole thing feels sturdy and solid in the hand, despite the slender dimensions.

NVIDIA is demonstrating its latest efforts in interactive ray tracing at SIGGRAPH 2008, using four next-generation Quadro GPUs in an NVIDIA Quadro Plex 2100 D4 Visual Computing System to show linear scaling during rendering of a complex, two-million polygon, anti-aliased automotive styling application. Intel's xHCI is set to debut with USB 3.0 and will most likely appear at IDF in San Francisco next week. This puts to rest the idea that Intel would be withholding the specs for USB 3.0. xHCI "provides hardware component designers, system builders and device driver developers with a description of the hardware/software interface between system software and the host controller hardware for USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 (previous versions are not supported)."
