Dell China have brought their smartphone out to play, the first official showing of the much-leaked handset. According to the launch reports, the Dell Mini 3i is based on the Chinese-designed Open Mobile System (OMS), an Android-based platform, and has less than impressive hardware: the Mini 3i is 2G GSM only, with no WiFi, and only a 3.2-megapixel camera (with LED flashlight) and Bluetooth to brighten things up.
It looks like Dell’s smartphone has managed to peak its little head out again, and this time the images may be a bit blurry, we at least see a lot more details this time around. The guys over at Boy Genius Report managed to get a sneak peak at the device, and it’s shaping up to be quite an interesting toy, especially for Android enthusiasts. The phone itself is code-named Benzine, and it’s supposedly ready to launch.
Dell’s latest mini-desktop, the Inspiron Zino HD, has broken cover, but the company obviously has some blackmail-quality information about Engadget and Gizmodo as neither site are spilling the details of what’s inside the low-profile box. Known so far is that there’s an optical drive, plenty of ports and interchangeable top covers with various patterns and finishes.
Dell have announced a new series of 14.1- and 15.6-inch Vostro business notebooks, the 1014, 1015 and 1088. Intended as entry-level machines, they include integrated optical drives, Intel Core 2 Duo processors and EnergyStar 5.0 certification, together with four USB ports, gigabit ethernet and Bluetooth.
The Dell Vostro was already released in China and Japan, sporting a 19″ display and VESA mounting compatibility for wall-mounts or an accessory arm-stand. But as promised, now Dell is letting the United States join in the fun.
Dell are tipped to be launching or announcing a smartphone in China at some point in the next few days, according to a source close to the company’s plans. Full details of the launch are unknown, but the handset is expected to feature a full touchscreen interface with no physical keyboard and likely using Android as its OS.
Dell have confirmed that they are killing off the Inspiron Mini 12, the company’s 12-inch netbook, leaving only 10-inch models in the company’s range. According to a posting on the Direct2Dell forums, the decision to axe the Mini 12 is in response to the “sweet spot” of 10-inch models that Dell has found buyers prefer.
The weekend is here again fellow geeks and geekettes so I am back with another week in review. Monday more rumors surfaced that has Apple launching that long anticipated tablet device this November. The rumors further claim that the tablet will be aimed at gaming and media use. Early this week Verizon cut the pricing on all its smartphones save a few of the new ones to $99. That makes us think lots of new smartphone hardware is on its way.
Dell’s latest ultraportable has made an appearance at the FCC, and quickly been identified as the Latitude Z spotted in the wild last June. The distinctive angled rear panel is what gives the otherwise unnamed notebook away, expected to be a 15-inch machine with a processor from Intel’s Centrino range.
Dell have discretely added three new monitors to their line-up, spanning 20- to 23-inches and sub-$230 price-tags. The largest is the 23-inch Dell ST2310, a Full HD 1,920 x 1080 panel with HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs, 250 nits of brightness, 5ms response time and 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. It also has a slimline bezel and audio in/out ports.
