Dell Streak official: O2 UK in June, US this Summer

Dell have finally confirmed availability for the Dell Streak – the Android MID formerly known as the Mini 5 – with the 5-inch tablet hitting O2 UK in early June, followed by a US launch later this summer.  Packing a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera and front-facing video camera, the Streak will also get an update to Android 2.2 Froyo with Flash 10.1 later in 2010.  Check out our hands-on first impressions – and some demo video – of the Streak after the cut.

Dell Streak (aka Mini 5) due O2 release June; AT&T launch Summer 2010

Dell CEO Michael Dell has confirmed launch details for the Dell Streak aka the Dell Mini 5 MID.  The outspoken exec took to the stage at the Citrix Synergy conference and announced that the voice-enabled handheld would "be available starting next month, first with our partner O2 Telefonica in Europe, then later this summer with our pretty good partner here in the United States, AT&T." Dell Athens & Sparta netbooks tipped, plus Looking Glass Pro HD tablet

Dell have been piloting a pretty leaky ship recently, with smartphones and tablets spilling out all over the place, and next up are the company's MID, netbook and tablet intentions.  AndroidCentral have acquired an image showing that Dell plan a convertible netbook/tablet, the "Sparta" in Q3 2011, which will have a nifty rotating touchscreen that pivots within its bezel, and a "true" netbook, the "Athens", later that quarter.  Going by the logos, they'll be available either with Android or Moblin (though we're guessing the latter was used prior to the Nokia/Intel MeeGo announcement). It's not just a Windows Phone 7 handset that has come gushing out of Dell's leaky spigot; there's also a healthy gobful of Android devices that have spattered up against Engadget's tipbox too.  On the cards are the Dell Looking Glass - a 7-inch Tegra 2 based Android tablet - together with a pair of distinctive smartphones, the Dell Smoke and the Dell Flash, each motoring on Qualcomm's new 800MHz MSM7230 chipset. Dell Streak 7- and 10-inch tablets leak; AT&T Aero drops June

Looks like someone inside Dell is just desperate for the company's tablet plans to escape.  After one exec confirmed that the Dell Mini 5 (aka Streak 5) was just the first of "a family of tablets", a shot of two new Dell Streak models - one with a seven inch touchscreen, the other ten inches - has landed on Engadget's desk, with the smaller expected to arrive late this year and the latter to make its debut early in 2011. I was at CTIA last week pitching various column ideas to SlashGear Editor Vincent Nguyen, and he shot them down, one by one. An analysis of the Kindle vs. iPad? No, SlashGear has covered that more than once, and we’ll all be writing hands-on reports next week. How the digital home environment has changed? New columnist Ben Bajarin just used that theme as his debut for SlashGear. How I lived on loaner laptops, cellphones and 3G modems last week when our town was out of power? Too close to Michael Gartenberg’s recent column on traveling with just a cellphone. Apparently, the big stuff is covered. So instead, I’m going to try to provide a look into how one analyst covers a trade show: a tech travelogue, of sorts.

AT&T Dell Aero revealed

Dell's first Android smartphone in the US has been officially confirmed for AT&T, in the shape of the AT&T Dell Aero.  Details about the smartphone are in short supply, with AT&T promising more information at this week's CTIA Wireless 2010 event, but the handset is obviously a reworking of Dell's existing Mini 3i.  That presumably means a 3.5-inch 640 x 360 touchscreen and 3G connectivity. However, AT&T have confirmed that they - along with Dell - have worked to reskin the Aero's UI, replacing the standard Android interface.  So far we don't know the extent of that customization, since Dell have only released a single image of the Aero, nor when we might be able to pick one up. Hungry for more on the Dell Mini 5 MID?  As well as confirming that the Android slate is the first of several such tablets from the company, Dell head tablet honcho Neeraj Choubey has also been spilling the beans on carrier partnerships, Android Market compatibility and the potential for next-gen resistive screens being used instead of capacitive on future models.

Dell Mini 5 first of “a family of tablets”

Dell's Mini 5 is just the first tablet the company are planning to release, and the Apple iPad is basically their target.  That's the message from Neeraj Choubey, general manager of Dell's tablet division, who has confirmed that the Mini 5 will be one of "a family of tablets", and he's also suggested that the company is working with carriers to push for low-cost data package plans similar to what Apple has negotiated.

Dell were playing the Mini 5 pretty close to their chest back at CES 2010, but the company was a little more open with the MID at MobileFocus this week.  We grabbed some hands-on time, and we have to say we’re impressed; the Mini 5 makes the Archos 5 Internet Tablet feel clunky, and while it’s just a little too large to be comfortably used as a smartphone, with full phone functionality you could certainly use it as such in a pinch.  Still, the Mini 5 really shines when it comes to media consumption and internet access.
