Sprint: OMG! We’re keeping unlimited data! Don’t leave!

Let's face it; the only thing keeping a bunch of subscribers from vacating Sprint in droves is the fact that the carrier is still offering unlimited data. Not too long ago Sprint announced that it was putting a cap on the data plan for its hotspots. The cap Sprint put on hotspot data usage was 5GB with some very steep overage fees if you wanted to use more. I would wager a bunch of subscribers saw the unlimited data use on the hotspots changing to capped use as a bit of writing on the wall. Read The Full Story

TruConnect Mobile offers pay-as-you-go internet

TruConnect is partnering with the nation's third largest carrier to bring you pay-as-you-go internet starting at a low $4.99 per month rate. Each MB of data used costs 3.9 cents on top of the low base rate. The service can be had either through a USB dongle or a MiFi WiFi mobile hotspot device. Read The Full Story

iPhone owners know that when the iPhone first debuted years ago unlimited data really meant unlimited. You could download all you want and not have to work about data overages. Today the carriers want us to believe that the data used for streaming video and music is so great that they can't afford true unlimited, unless you are grandfathered in on AT&T. I think we all knew the day was inevitable when the final carrier offering truly unlimited data would start throttling users and that day is now here. Virgin Mobile will start to throttle the heaviest users of data on the pre-paid service. The last time a major carrier moved to data throttling for heavy users was Verizon when it started throttling back in February of 2011.
