Details of Acer's new mainstream business notebooks have emerged, the Acer Travelmate Timeline series.  As the name suggests, the range is based on the existing 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch Aspire 3810T, 4810T and 5810T Timeline models, complete with their CULV low-voltage processors.  However the new Travelmates have magnesium alloy chassis for improved durability, together with dedicated anti-shock software and biometric security.

What the world needs now, sang Viewsonic, is Ion, sweet Ion, and so they gave us this.  The Viewsonic VOT 130/132 nettop may look like a pale VHS cassette but it's actually one of the items in the company's new product range, accompanied by two other compact desktops, two netbooks and a PMP.  Of the lot, though, it's the VOT 130/132 that's most interesting, having as it does optional NVIDIA Ion graphics.

Intel push for CULV “ultra-thin” adoption over netbooks

Intel has continued its attempts to coax the industry into CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) so-called "ultra-thin" notebooks rather than netbooks, highlighting the shortcomings of the latter devices which, ironically, are generally based on the company's own Atom N270 processor.  Speaking during Intel's earnings conference call on Tuesday, CEO Paul Otellini described ultra-thins as "an affordable notebook that has more functionality [than a netbook]."

Release timetables for Intel's ultrathin and regular notebook processors have been leaked from industry sources, together with its Lynnfield desktop CPU range and new Xeon server chips.  According to the leaks, Intel will roll out Celeron SU2300 and Celeron 743 processors for ultrathin notebooks by the end of September, with the Core 2 Extreme XE 2GHz, Core 2 Quad P2 1.73GHz and Core 2 Quad P1 1.6GHz - all part of Intel's Clarksfield notebook processor range - will see a launch sometime around the Q3/Q4 crossover point.

Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T ultraportable: netbook style, CULV hardware

Acer's plan to replace the Aspire One 751 netbook with an 11.6-inch Timeline ultraportable - which we reported last month - has apparently come to fruition with this, the Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T.  According to macles, the 11.6-inch 1366 x 758 16:9 notebook swaps the AO751's anemic Atom Z520 processor for an Intel ULV SU3500 1.4GHz CPU, up to 4GB of RAM and the Intel GS45 Express Chipset with integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics and hardware HD video decoding.
