Perhaps it’s a 2009 thing and, come the new year, packaging will won’t enthral us so, but for now there’s a great deal of geeky appeal in how manufacturers choose to present their tech.  Cowon have generally been associated more with audio performance than they have with style, but it looks like some of the “shape up” message is getting through: DAP Review have just taken delivery of the iAudio 9 PMP, and as their unboxing photoset shows there’s obviously been a lot of thought put into how it’s packaged.

Gadgets leaked by text are far less exciting than blurry, hurriedly-snapped photos, but we won’t turn up our noses at a preview no matter the method.  It now appears that Cowon have a touchscreen MID in the works, the Cowon W2, according to a test page at the Bluetooth SIG, though specifications are still scant.

Cowon’s iAudio 9 PMP now has a release date and pricing, after the slimline media player was first outed at the start of October.  8.9mm thick, the iAudio 9 will be available in 8GB and 16GB configurations, and land in Japan at least in the middle of November 2009.

Cowon have outed their latest PMP, the iAudio 9, complete with a 2-inch QVGA display and voice-recorder functionality.  While it may not have the outright style of some rival devices, one thing Cowon have always impressed with is codec support and the iAudio 9 is looking like it’ll be no different.

Cowon’s next MP3 player has been previewed, and the keyring-style iAudio E2 is already causing no small amount of confusion.  While it ostensibly resembles a screenless PMP in the manner of the iPod shuffle, the row of icons at the top of the Cowon teaser (which you can see full-sized after the cut) does seem to suggest a more complete range of features.

ipod nano touchpadApple, Microsoft, Bang & Olufsen and iriver are among the defendants named by Tsera LLC, a company claiming to own a touchpad patent which has been vigorously infringed.  The lawsuit concerns Tsera’s patent “Methods and apparatus for controlling a portable electronic device using a touchpad”, and basically describes recognizing different touchpad swipes without requiring visual feedback.

Cowon have unveiled a ceramic white version of their S9 touchscreen AMOLED PMP, although it’s yet to go on sale in the US.  The Cowon S9 White Edition comes with matching headphones and the same crisp 480 x 272 display.

Well this is good news! It seems you can now get your hands on the S9 MP3 player from Cowon with a 32GB capacity on Amazon. And this comes just a few days after the device’s announcement in South Korea.

Cowon have announced an updated version of their D2 PMP, the Cowon D2+, with the same touchscreen control as the original but a newly tweaked OS.  The D2+ has an integrated DMB digital TV tuner, video and audio playback, together with an ebook reader, flash player and up to 52 hours battery life.

Cowon have officially announced the L3 combination PMP and GPS navigator, with a 7-inch touchscreen display, dual-core processor (each core running at 480MHz) and DMB digital TV.  First spotted back in August last year, the L3’s sizable display runs at 800 x 480 WVGA with 128MB of SDRAM, 4GB of storage and an SD card.
