Shuttle XPC Barebone SH55J2 SFF PC content with Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs

Shuttle's latest small-form-factor PC has been unveiled, and the XPC Barebone SH55J2 manages to offer compatibility with Intel's Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 CPU ranges.  The first machine to support all socket 1156 Core variants, the SH55J2 is compatible with the onboard GPU found in certain Core i3 and i5 processors, and has both HDMI and VGA outputs; alternatively a PCI Express socket can take a dual-slot discrete graphics card.

Mac Pro & iMac refresh: USB 3.0 & faster FireWire tipped for back-to-school season

All eyes may be on the iPhone 4 right now (or, more accurately, on its chubby little signal strength meter and whereabouts your fingers are in relation to the antenna) but that doesn't mean we'll bypass a good Mac Pro rumor.  According to one of Hard Mac's "better sources", Apple is preparing for a Mac Pro refresh at the end of the summer, to hopefully tap into the "back to school" period.  Meanwhile they'll be swiftly followed by an iMac refresh.

Acer has announced two new sets of mainstream notebooks, with the Acer Aspire AS5745 and AS7745 offering up to Core i7 CPUs, discrete graphics and optional multitouch displays, while the new regular Aspire notebooks kick off from $429.99 and have a choice of Intel or AMD chips and integrated or discrete graphics.  The AS5745 has a 15.6-inch display, Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU, while the AS7745 gets a 17.3-inch display, Core i7 CPU and ATI Radeon HD 5650 GPU, Blu-ray and room for a second HDD.

Toshiba has unveiled their latest ultraportable, the Toshiba Portégé R700, and while it may look like your average thin-and-light in some key ways it's actually pretty unique. The 13.3-inch R700 - which will also go on sale as the consumer-focussed Satellite R630 - uses a new airflow cooling system that, by pulling in cool air over the hotter components, rather than pushing out hot air, means Toshiba can not only use regular Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors rather than their less-powerful ULV counterparts, but do so in a machine that stays cool to the touch.
