ASUS Zenbook UX21 hands-on [Update: UX31 too]

ASUS has boarded the ultrabook bandwagon, and it’s picked an impressive machine to show its hand. The ASUS Zenbook UX21 may not be branded an ultrabook, but it’s just as much one of the new Intel breed of ultrabooks – and a MacBook Air rival – as Acer’s, Toshiba’s, Lenovo’s and the rest. Windows 8 Tablet Hands-on

Toshiba Portege Z830 hands-on [Video]

Toshiba‘s first ultrabook, the Portege Z830, was something of a surprise reveal at the company’s IFA 2011 press conference. Based on Intel’s Core processor range, the company has managed to fit up to a Core i7 CPU inside the 0.63-inch thick chassis, but still keep weight down to a mere 2.5 pounds.

Dell has outed a new Vostro, the latest notebook in the company's budget line. The Dell Vostro V131 kicks off at $499 for a Celeron dual-core processor - though Core i3 and i5 processors are available - up to 6GB of DDR3 RAM and a 13.3-inch 1366 x 768 anti-glare display, with WiFi b/g/n and up to 9.5hrs of battery life. Gateway ID and NV notebooks outed: Core i5 and AMD APU options

Gateway has outed its updated ID and NV notebook ranges, offering Sandy Bridge processors, USB 3.0 and - on select models - NVIDIA Optimus graphics switching. The Gateway ID47 series is particularly slick, using new LCD display technology to fit a 14-inch edge-to-edge panel into a notebook you'd more commonly find with a 13.3-inch screen. Samsung has outed a new range of Series 9 notebooks, with three new 13.3-inch models and two new 11.6-inch models, priced from $1,049. The new Series 9 machines keep the styling of the models that began shipping in May, but add in new Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, up to 256GB SSDs and up to 6GB of DDR3 memory. Sony VAIO Z Series: 13.3″ Ultraportable with Light Peak dock

Sony has unveiled its latest performance ultraportable, the Sony VAIO Z Series, tipping the scales at under 1.2kg but still offering - thanks to a docking station that uses the same Intel Thunderbolt connection technology as Apple recently adopted - solid graphics performance with an external video card. The new 13.1-inch 1600 x 900 notebook runs up to a Core i7-2620M 2.7GHz processor paired with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory and up to a 256GB SSD, while the Sony Power Media Dock VGP-PRZ20C/VGP-PRZ20A packs an AMD Radeon HD 6650M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated memory, a choice of DVD or Blu-ray drives, and support for a further two simultaneous monitors. Toshiba DX1215 all-in-one PC packs Full HD touchscreen, HDMI input

Toshiba's Satellite L750 isn't the only new piece of computing hardware from the company today; there's also a swanky new all-in-one PC. Acer Timeline X updated: 3830T, 4830T and 5830T on Sandy Bridge

Acer has revealed its updated TimelineX range of notebooks, including the 13.3-inch 3830T, 14-inch 4830T and 15.6-inch 5830T, and using Intel's Sandy Bridge Core i3 and i5 processors. The new TimelineX machines offer either integrated Intel HD graphics or NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M/540M graphics with Optimus switching, with battery life up to 9hrs or 8hrs respectively.
