HP ENVY 14 Review

The baby of HP’s second-generation ENVY premium notebook range has arrived on the SlashGear test bench, and we have to admit it’s a pretty appealing machine. Packing a 14.5-inch display, Intel Core i5 CPU and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics, it may look a little like a MacBook Pro but happily HP has also carried over the solid build quality. iMac gets Core i3, i5 & i7 update, new Apple Magic Trackpad

As expected, Apple has updated its iMac line to include Intel’s Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors, and they’ve also outed their Magic Trackpad too.  As before there are 21.5- and 27-inch versions of the iMac, now kicking off from $1,199 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics; $1,699 gets you a 27-inch 3.20 GHz Intel Core i3 machine with ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics.

iMac stock shortages continue ahead of tipped range refresh

Speculation of an imminent iMac refresh continues apace, with AppleInsider hearing that some Apple stores are reporting low or non-existent stock of both 21.5- and 27-inch versions of the all-in-one desktop.  The news follows recent leaks that tipped updated iMacs with USB 3.0, faster FireWire connectivity and even touchscreen functionality; a new entry-level machine with an Intel Core i3 CPU has been mentioned, together with dual-core Core i5 and quad-core Core i5/i7 models. Shuttle XPC Barebone SH55J2 SFF PC content with Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs

Shuttle's latest small-form-factor PC has been unveiled, and the XPC Barebone SH55J2 manages to offer compatibility with Intel's Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 CPU ranges.  The first machine to support all socket 1156 Core variants, the SH55J2 is compatible with the onboard GPU found in certain Core i3 and i5 processors, and has both HDMI and VGA outputs; alternatively a PCI Express socket can take a dual-slot discrete graphics card. HP TouchSmart tm2 Adds Core i5 Processor to List of Features, Available Now

Back in May, there was a pretty robust rumor making its way around the Internet, saying something to the extent that the HP TouchSmart tm2 convertible laptop would be getting a big improvement in the processor department. It launched "back in the day" with Intel's Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, and the rumors suggested that Intel would be supplanting that with their own Core i5 CPU. ASUS UK have outed a pair of new notebooks in their Bamboo series, with the U33 and U53 both clad in a mixture of brushed aluminum and "smoky-brown" bamboo.  The 13.3-inch U33 and 15.6-inch U53 each get an Intel Core i5-430M processor paired with NVIDIA Optimus graphics, automatically switching between a GeForce 310M 1GB GPU and integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. Gateway has outed their latest notebook, the Gateway ID Series, packing Intel Core i3 and i5 processors and NVIDIA Optimus switchable graphics on select models.  The Gateway ID49 has a 14-inch HD 1366 x 768 display while the Gateway ID59 has a 15.6-inch HD display; both get an aluminum alloy lid and an aqua-blue multitouch touchpad that resembles matte glass when not lit and then glows when touched. Acer has refreshed its TimelineX series of thin-and-light notebooks, with the new range packing Intel Core i3 or i5 processors and starting from $599.99 in stores today.  Four sizes are on offer, from the 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline 1830T, through the 13.3-inch 3820T and 14-inch 4820T, and finishing up with the 15.6-inch 5820T. Acer has announced two new sets of mainstream notebooks, with the Acer Aspire AS5745 and AS7745 offering up to Core i7 CPUs, discrete graphics and optional multitouch displays, while the new regular Aspire notebooks kick off from $429.99 and have a choice of Intel or AMD chips and integrated or discrete graphics.  The AS5745 has a 15.6-inch display, Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU, while the AS7745 gets a 17.3-inch display, Core i7 CPU and ATI Radeon HD 5650 GPU, Blu-ray and room for a second HDD. Dell has officially announced its latest range of notebooks, the Dell Inspiron R series, aimed at home users on something of a budget.  Kicking off with the 14-inch Inspiron 14R at $479.99, before climbing through the 15.6-inch Inspiron 15R (at $449.99) and the 17.3-inch Inspiron 17R (at $529.99), the three machines offer Intel Core i3 and i5 processors, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory and optional Intel Wireless Display support. Toshiba Portégé R700 hands-on [Video]

Toshiba has unveiled their latest ultraportable, the Toshiba Portégé R700, and while it may look like your average thin-and-light in some key ways it’s actually pretty unique. The 13.3-inch R700 – which will also go on sale as the consumer-focussed Satellite R630 – uses a new airflow cooling system that, by pulling in cool air over the hotter components, rather than pushing out hot air, means Toshiba can not only use regular Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors rather than their less-powerful ULV counterparts, but do so in a machine that stays cool to the touch.
