Alienware M11x Core i3, i5 and i7 update due June

, May 23rd 2010 Discuss [0]

We weren't exactly disappointed by the Alienware M11x gaming ultraportable's performance when we reviewed it a few months back, but nor would we turn our noses up at a speed boost should Dell be so kind.  As the rumors suggested, Dell are apparently planning to slot Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs into the 11.6-inch notebook, and according to Pearce Clune, Head of Consumer Operations for Middle East, Africa and Turkey, we can expect it next month. , May 12th 2010 Discuss [0]

Lenovo's reassuringly green ThinkPad L412 and L512 notebooks have gone on sale, and they bring with them a pleasant boost in basic specs.  Rather than the $649 Celeron base model we initially heard about, both the 14-inch L412 and 15.6-inch L512 kick off at $599 with an Intel Core i3 CPU.  An upgrade to a Core i5 processor is just $150. Lenovo IdeaPad U160, U460 & U460s intro latest Core i3/i5/i7 ULV CPUs

, May 11th 2010 Discuss [0]

The IdeaPad Z series aren't the only mainstream notebooks Lenovo have to announce this morning; the company has also taken the wraps off of the new Lenovo IdeaPad U series.  Admittedly the new IdeaPad U160, U460 and U460s aren't quite as interesting as the U1 Hybrid, but the 11.6-inch U160 and 14-inch U460 and U460s do slide in at under an inch in thickness while still packing Intel's new Core and Core ULV low-power processors. HP TouchSmart tm2 to get Core i3/i5 in June?

The TouchSmart tm2 wasn't in among the notebooks HP refreshed earlier this week, but according to NewGadget.de the convertible touchscreen PC will be getting an update of its own by the end of June 2010.  Their sources reckon the 12.1-inch notebook will junk its existing Core 2 Duo SU7300 in favor of Intel's Core i3 and i5 processors, giving it a much-welcome speed boost. Dell Inspiron M501R packs new AMD Phenom II X4 CPU; gets Core i3/i5 13R, 14R, 15R & 17R siblings

Dell have outed a new range of Inspiron notebooks, the 13R, 14R, 15R, 17R and M501R, each offering greater customisation potential than their non-R siblings.  While Intel's Core i3 and i5 CPUs serve most of the new models, the Dell Inspiron M501R is perhaps more interesting since it marks the debut of AMD's new Phenom II X4 mobile processor, codenamed Champlain, and previously only expected sometime in May 2010.  There's still no sign of an official press release from AMD themselves about the chip. Toshiba Tecra M11 gets Core i3/i5 from $879

, Apr 14th 2010 Discuss [0]

It's obviously a week for laptop processor upgrades, and while Toshiba's Tecra M11 notebooks aren't quite as eye-catching - or as fast - as Apple's new MacBook Pro machines, they're a whole lot cheaper.  The 14-inch Tecra M11 packs Intel's latest Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs, together with up to 3GB of DDR3 memory and standard Intel HD graphics; if you're willing to splash out on the top-spec model, you get NVIDIA NVS 2100M graphics instead.
