Panasonic has outed its latest ultraportable, and while it may be netbook-sized it's far from netbook-powered.  The Panasonic Let'snote J9 has a silly name but it also packs Intel's 2.53GHz Core i5-460M processor, 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD (in "high performance" CF-J9L configuration) along with its 1366 x 768 10.1-inch display. Acer Aspire AS5745DG 3D Vision notebook joins refreshed AS5742G, AS5745 & AS7745

Acer has updated its AS5742G, AS5745 and Aspire AS7745 notebooks, throwing in a selection of new Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, together with a choice of integrated NVIDIA Optimus or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics.  The 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 AS5742G and AS 5745 machines have a choice of HDDs up to 500GB, while the 17.3-inch 1600 x 900 AS7745 gets up to 1TB.  There's also the Acer AS5745DG with NVIDIA 3D Vision courtesy of the NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M GPU. HP TouchSmart 310, Omni100 and TouchSmart tm2 get official

HP has outed a trio of new PCs, including the HP TouchSmart 310 and HP Omni100 desktops, and the HP TouchSmart tm2 convertible notebook.  The TouchSmart 310 is a 20-inch all-in-one running AMD's 2.8GHz Athlon II 240e dual-core CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD; it has a TV tuner, DVD burner and multitouch capable display. Samsung SF Series laptops & NF Series netbooks revealed

Samsung has outed a pair of new notebooks, the wavy SF Series and NF Series, each using the Korean company's new, unusual design language.  The Samsung SF Series comes with a choice of Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processors, with three screen options - the 13.3” SF310, 14” SF410 and 15.6” SF 510 - and battery life of up to 7.5hrs with the standard 61Wh battery. Fujitsu's latest external-graphics notebook has been revealed, the LIFEBOOK AH530 GFX, offloading its ATI Mobility Radeon HD550v 1GB video card to make for a more portable main unit.  Based on May's original AH530, complete with optional Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, Blu ray or DVD drives, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 500GB HDD, the AH530 GFX gives desktop users an alternative to the standard notebook's Intel HD GPU. ASUS N53JN and N73JN pack Core i3/i5, Optimus and B&O audio

ASUS' last collaboration with Bang & Olufsen resulted in the distinctive NX90; with the notebook manufacturers new N Series machines, it seems they relied only on B&O's audio skills and left their own designers in charge.  The new ASUS N53JN and N73JN - with 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch displays respectively - get Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, NVIDIA Optimus graphics and, of course, the B&O developed ASUS SonicMaster audio. iMac gets Core i3, i5 & i7 update, new Apple Magic Trackpad

As expected, Apple has updated its iMac line to include Intel’s Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors, and they’ve also outed their Magic Trackpad too.  As before there are 21.5- and 27-inch versions of the iMac, now kicking off from $1,199 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics; $1,699 gets you a 27-inch 3.20 GHz Intel Core i3 machine with ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics.

Toshiba Portege R705 Review

Toshiba’s Portege R705 is an unexpected addition to the company’s ultraportable range. Based on the Portege R700 unveiled as part of Toshiba’s 25th anniversary for notebooks, the R705-P25 is a Best Buy exclusive with an MRSP of $889.99 but a street price that scrapes in at under $800. That makes it the cheapest Portege to date, and Toshiba would like us to remember it’s also the lightest 13.3-inch notebook with an integrated optical drive (outside of Japan, at least). iMac stock shortages continue ahead of tipped range refresh

Speculation of an imminent iMac refresh continues apace, with AppleInsider hearing that some Apple stores are reporting low or non-existent stock of both 21.5- and 27-inch versions of the all-in-one desktop.  The news follows recent leaks that tipped updated iMacs with USB 3.0, faster FireWire connectivity and even touchscreen functionality; a new entry-level machine with an Intel Core i3 CPU has been mentioned, together with dual-core Core i5 and quad-core Core i5/i7 models. Shuttle's latest small-form-factor PC has been unveiled, and the XPC Barebone SH55J2 manages to offer compatibility with Intel's Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 CPU ranges.  The first machine to support all socket 1156 Core variants, the SH55J2 is compatible with the onboard GPU found in certain Core i3 and i5 processors, and has both HDMI and VGA outputs; alternatively a PCI Express socket can take a dual-slot discrete graphics card. HP TouchSmart tm2 Adds Core i5 Processor to List of Features, Available Now

Back in May, there was a pretty robust rumor making its way around the Internet, saying something to the extent that the HP TouchSmart tm2 convertible laptop would be getting a big improvement in the processor department. It launched "back in the day" with Intel's Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, and the rumors suggested that Intel would be supplanting that with their own Core i5 CPU.
