Sony PS3 Slim tipped for €300 September launch

The Sony PS3 Slim rumors refuse to die down, as anonymous French retailer seemingly confirms not only the existence of the low-profile console but a European launch in September.  According to gaming site JVN's research, the PS3 Slim will land priced at around €299.99 ($424), which is €100 ($141) less than the current PlayStation 3 retails for in Europe. Xbox 360 Pro retirement tipped by change in box-art

Eagle-eyed GameStop employees have spotted a change in Microsoft's box-art for the Xbox 360 Arcade, the most obvious difference being the removal of the Xbox 360 Pro from the comparison chart.  As you can see in the image below (old box on the left, new box on the right), only two Xbox 360 packages are now listed, with Microsoft seemingly intending to discontinue their "entry" model. PS3 Slim launch gains ground as Sony Japan kill 80GB PlayStation 3 [Updated]

A leaked memo to a Japanese retailer warning that final orders for the 80GB PlayStation 3 must be placed before Sunday August 9th has added fuel to the expectation that Sony will soon launch the PS3 Slim.  According to the notice, retailer 7-Eleven has also been told to take down in-store displays for the 80GB model. According to the latest rumors coming out of Taiwan, Aptina have won the contract to supply the CMOS image sensors for Microsoft's upcoming Project Natal motion-control gaming system.  The company will exclusively provide 1.3-megapixel CIS for Project Natal, which DigiTimes claims will begin shipping in the second half of 2010. No plans for black US Wii says Nintendo

What a difference a color makes.  The humble Nintendo Wii, usually placid and undemanding in its standard white casing, gets a shot of danger, excitement and devil-may-care panache in its black Japanese variant, but that sort of illicit color-thrill is obviously far too much for the US to cope with.  Nintendo have confirmed that they have "no plans to have other colors of Wii in the US." Sony admit PSP Go price inflation

It's perhaps saying a lot about our opinion of big businesses like Sony when admitting you purposefully milk early-adopters wins you kudos for honesty.  SCEE's Andrew House, current president and former chief marketing officer, has done just that, telling MCV that the PSP Go's high price is partly the result of "a certain premium" associated with a new device. Nintendo axed DSi alternative just before launch

Somewhere, in a dark corner of a Nintendo lab, is the company's own alternative to the DSi.  According to the company's global president, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo finalized the hardware on different handheld gaming system sometime in the past three years, but in the end decided to can the project rather than release it. Nintendo black “KURO” Wii and Red DSi confirmed for Japan

Nintendo have announced that they will begin selling a black Wii in Japan come August, shortly after their new red DSi goes on sale there in July.  The black console will be the first time the Wii has been available in a color other than white, though Nintendo did initially demonstrate it in various hues. Leaked PS3 Slim photos prompt Cease & Desist notice

Opinion on what were claimed to be leaked chassis images and box-art for the upcoming Sony PS3 Slim tended toward the dubious, but they've just received a shot in the arm courtesy of of a cease & desist letter.  Sent to Engadget (who bizarrely weren't even the first site to feature them), the letter is not from Sony but from another, so-far unnamed Chinese firm, potentially the owners of the factory in which the leaked shots were taken.
