Xbox 720 is Xbox Fusion suggests latest console chatter

Microsoft isn't far off announcing the first official details about its upcoming "Xbox 720" next-gen console, but according to the latest batch of whispers the gaming flagship will launch as the Xbox Fusion. Speculation about the official name Microsoft will give the Xbox 360 successor has circulated since shortly after the 360 itself arrived, with the current internal codename "Durango" and tongue-in-cheek "Xbox 720" expected to fall by the wayside in favor of a more distinctive brand.

Why the PlayStation 4 Is Already In High Demand

Why the PlayStation 4 Is Already In High Demand

The PlayStation 4 hasn’t even been shown off to the public yet, but already the box is on the minds of millions of people across the globe. In fact, in a recent earnings call with investors, GameStop president Tony Bartel said that his company has 900,000 people signed up for its first-to-know list on the PlayStation 4. And he expects demand to far outstrip supply of the console when it launches.

Such demand already might surprise some folks. After all, it took a long time for the PlayStation 3 to truly get off the ground and although it’ll likely end this generation with more worldwide sales than the Xbox 360, in the U.S., especially, it’s no match for Microsoft’s console.

Ouya video game console ships on June 4

Early on when the Ouya video game console turned up on Kickstarter, it was easy to see the device is nothing more than a way to bring Android game apps to the big screen in your living room. This console will have access to video games developed by major game developers and also supports other types of content.

Diablo 3 gameplay footage for the PS3 unveiled

Gameplay footage for the PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3 has been released. The video shows the PC-game with a very different UI. Gameplay is smooth (for the most part), the new control system seems very user-friendly, and the new dynamic camera system seems very appealing (the fight against Belial looked very entertaining). All in all, the PlayStation 3 port seems very well done and should appeal to Diablo 3 fans.

PS Vita price cut results in sales quadrupling

PS Vita price cut results in sales quadrupling

It looks like Sony slashing the prices of its PS Vita systems have done it wonders. Sony had cut the price of its PS Vita down to 19,980 yen from 24,980 yen due to its struggling sales. It looked like the 30% price cut worked because Sony saw sales quadruple for the device compared to two weeks ago. The announcement was made by Hiroshi Kawano, President of Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan, while he was doing a presentation for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2.

Why the World Needs A Universal Game Console

Why the World Needs A Universal Game Console

The recent announcement of NPD’s game console numbers had me thinking about the industry and what it has become. Each month, we examine those figures to see where the market stands and fans of all three major consoles take up arms to explain why their product is best.

But all of that debate and all of the talk about the success or failure of devices like the Wii U make me question what the future looks like. We’re expected to see more game consoles hit the marketplace in the next year or so, and Steam is also planning to enter the fray. Add that to OUYA and the possibility of Apple gaming, and it becomes clear that the console market will only grow in the coming years.
