It looks like we’re getting one step closer to having that future we’ve all imagined. You know, that future we all envisioned when we first played Sim City 2000. Or when we saw Blade Runner for the first time. We may not have flying, or even levitating, cars right now, but at least we’re moving in the right direction. And thanks to prototypes like the Solar Powered Road, we can start to think that it may not be another 100 years before we get there.
Washing clothes is one of those things we all have to do. Clothes washing also uses up lots of water and if you are the green sort, you might be trying to find ways to save some of the water you are using. A new concept washing machine called Mr. Klein promises to wash your clothes using the same water repeatedly.
Every speaker I have ever owned have been in square or rectangle boxes that looked basically the same on the outside whether they were $20 Walmart specials or multi thousand dollar high-end speakers with tweeters made from unicorn horns and fairy dust. You can get speakers that are as much sculpture as they are for music and home theater on one of the cooler looking concept designs I have seen is the Pendolo.
Could all the Golden-i wearable computer need to be more consumer-friendly be a dashing hat? Probably not quite – after all, there’s still the rather noticeable eyepiece to take into account – but William Gerwin’s Kodak Sponsored Studio project does do a better job at removing some of the geek-factor to a wearable system.
With the MacBook now brought smack up to date with unibody styling, and the fully metal-clad iMac causing a stir on desktops, it seems like about the right sort of time to ask what the iPhone could learn from the new designs? Happily Isamu Sanada – who you might recall from these fair pages in previous months – is one step ahead of us, and he’s put together some concept art of what an iMac-inspired fourth-gen iPhone might look like.
Despite the clamoring for higher and higher resolution digital cameras, all it takes is one good idea and we’re willing to make do with far fewer pixels. Matty Martin’s PUNCH camera concept packs both a regular CMOS sensor and preview screen with an automatic hole-punch system: once you’ve snapped a shot, the camera rasterizes the image, scurries an array of different-sized pins into place, and – by “punching” it onto a piece of paper – makes a physical copy of the image.
