If you’re going to ask someone to design a bike, you may as well make it an Olympic medal winner.  Chris Boardman has put pen to paper and come up with this concept for his Boardman Bikes brand, an “intelligent” cycle that not only keeps track of your calorie count but has fingerprint recognition for a biometric lock, integrated mediaplayer and a solar-powered motor for giving you a push when faced with hills.

Nothing like a new computer concept to get us thinking, and Guy Ceder’s “Buddy” system certainly ticks the usual boxes of slick industrial design, couch-friendly touchscreen usability and modular components.  Buddy consists of three main sections, a small portable touchscreen unit with handy hook, a larger touchscreen display with integrated projector, and a base-station with the hardware grunt and recharging elements.

With all the renewed talk of an Apple touchscreen MID or “Media Pad” recently, it’s about time we saw another decent mockup of what such a device might look like.  Happily notorious Apple renderer Isamu Sanada has delivered just that, with what he calls the MacBook touch.

Routers are seldom the most interesting thing to look at in the tech world, but all that could change if the FutureRouters Route O’Clock concept ever reaches production.  Intended to easily convey periods of free-flowing or lumpen bandwidth, it uses historical information to suggest when might be good times for online gaming or downloads.

Android concept phones were ten-a-penny back when we though Google themselves would be producing the hardware, but they’ve dwindled since HTC started pumping out devices.  Happily that hasn’t stopped designer Tryi Yeh, whose Google-G0 concept is one of the better we’ve seen.

If you’ve ever wished for a real-world version of Photoshop’s eyedropper tool, you’re not alone.  Korean designer Jinsu Park has created this “Color Picker Pen” concept, coupling an optical scanner with an RGB ink cartridge that can mix up any hue you zap.

Not something our US readers will necessarily find frustrating (unless you regularly travel) but our UK contingent will probably join with me in fervently hoping this folding plug concept makes it to production.  The handiwork of Min Kyo Choi, the plug takes the usual bulky three-pin design and squeezes it into a folded slice less than a centimeter thick.

scamander rrv 1 300x173Now this is pretty cool. The Scamander was built to go over anything and it truly lives up to its build promise. Peter Wheeler decided to make a car that could go anywhere and before he died, he saw his dream fulfilled.

It sports 35-inch tires, paddles on the rear wheels, individual braking systems, and a 2.0 litre Ford Zetec engine. He called it an “RRV” or a “rapid response vehicle” because it could change its function immediately for whatever you needed.

The body is constructed from foam plastic pods that are situated within the aluminum frame, making it aerodynamic and lightweight–perfect for those treks through the lake. It can hold four people and is really just about one of the coolest cars ever. Good on you Mr. Wheeler!

Nothing like a new niche to get the concept artists salivating, but this time it’s Freescale Semiconductor who are working on possible Smartbook designs.  The company has commissioned six prototypes, ranging from the touchscreen-slate-with-QWERTY-ears you see here to a modular mini-notebook and a leather-clad clamshell.

Hot from the “hang on, why haven’t I seen that before?” department comes ARM’s video demo of what a Mobile Computer Concept should be.  Based on ARM’s Cortex A9 processor with the ARM Mali 400 chipset providing graphics, the most obviously unfeasible part of the concept is the pull-out, flexible touchscreen.
