ASUS posted up a video on YouTube that gives us a tease at what to expect from the company at Computex 2013 this year. The video mostly highlights what the company is all about, and they show off some of their products in the video as well, with a few interesting glances at mysterious products that we haven’t seen before.

Based on how many times they use the word “transform” in the video, we can only assume that ASUS will unveil a new Transformer tablet at Computex coming up next month, and based on the teaser video, it looks to be a smaller form factor tablet of sorts with a stylus that comes with it — tucked in on the bottom-right corner as the screenshot above suggests. It could be one of the 7-inch tablets running Windows 8 that has been recently rumored.

According to the video description, ASUS says that they will be announcing new products “that reimagine the way you interact with desktop PCs, notebooks, smartphones, tablets and more.” We’re not sure if ASUS would announce a product for everyone of these categories, but it’s possible that we’ll see new devices that blend some of these form factors together.

ASUS will be holding a press conference on June 3 for Computex 2013, where the company will officially unveil what they’ve been working on, and based on their cute little countdown that they have posted on their events webpage, that’s only 24 days away at the time of this writing.

We all knew this was coming, but today it’s now official. The folks from Intel took to their social network channels to tease a countdown to their next Intel Core processors. The 4th generation chip that’s known as ‘Haswell’ that will be powering laptops, ultrabooks and hybrid portable devices moving forward. That countdown ends this summer on June 3rd.

Posting the image you see above to Twitter, Intel teases that in approximately 3,337,200,000,000,000 nanoseconds Intel will reveal their hotly anticipated 4th gen Intel Core processor to the world. Basically right at the beginning of Computex 2013, where we’ll see loads of Haswell powered hybrid PCs and more.

Haswell hasn’t been much of a secret, and earlier this month we confirmed Intel had already started shipping Haswell to an array of PC manufacturers. Haswell promises to bring a major boost in performance and more importantly battery life over Ivy-bridge for all those ultra-portables.

Around the same time we are also expecting to see Windows Blue show its face, so this years Computex is looking to be a pretty exciting event. We all knew the chip was coming but now all you enthusiasts can circle a time around June 3rd on your calendar and start getting ready for the onslaught of Haswell based systems. We could even see a few Android-based systems too, so stay tuned.

Intel has been dominating the processor market for computers for years now with AMD far behind it in market share other companies with very little share in the notebook and desktop computer market. When it comes to other segments of the chip market like mobile processors, things are very different for Intel. Intel has had problems traditionally producing a mobile chip that would compete with offerings from ARM and others on power consumption.

Power consumption has to be low in a portable device or the battery doesn’t last long enough, and consumers don’t buy. Intel is actively working to move into the booming tablet and mobile device market and is working on new chips to facilitate that growth and competition with ARM. ARM is dominating the smartphone and tablet markets right now with its line of processors that sip power and offer good performance. The WSJ reports that at Computex in Taiwan later this month Intel will be powering several new tablet computers that will debut at the show.

The tablets will be offered by Intel’s PC partners and others. Intel is getting set to launch a new processor line under the code-name Oak Trail that was specifically designed for tablets and to compete against ARM. Analysts still say that Intel has uphill battle thanks to the lack of strong partnerships in the mobile market. There has been a lot of talk the last few days about Microsoft’s tablet plans, which were spilled by Intel. A Microsoft and Intel tie up could go a long way towards getting Intel into the tablet and smartphone market. Intel has also promised mobile phones using its processors by early next year. Intel’s Navin Shenoy has said that 35 tablets are on track to ship this year using Intel chips.

Pixel Qi have been demonstrating the latest version of their 3qi display at Computex 2010, complete with its wider viewing angles, and going by jkkmobile’s reaction the new screen is a success. As with previous versions, the new panel has indoor/outdoor functionality including a backlight-off mode for prolonging battery life, but it’s also much easier to see from the side judging by Pixel Qi’s demo prototypes.

Update: Added demo video of Pixel Qi’s new tablet reference design after the cut.

There are also some new touchscreen demo devices and a couple of tablets on show, though the exact touchscreen technology Pixel Qi are using isn’t clear. There’s already a projected capacitance panel on sale, but they’ve promised other touchscreen systems too. No sign of the Notion Ink Adam, one of the best known – and most hotly anticipated – tablets to use the 3qi display.

High volume production for the new, wide-angle screen is expected to kick off this fall, though Pixel Qi still aren’t saying exactly who will be adopting them for their products.

DigiTimes reports that while both MSI and Asus have completed development on tablets using ARM processors and the Android OS, those tablets will not be the focus at Computex. Rather the focus will be placed on tablets running Intel hardware and Microsoft software.

DigiTimes’ sources allege that the reason for the big focus on Wintel hardware is due to “persuasion” from both Intel and Microsoft. Despite the alleged persuasion tactics, ARM based machines running the Android OS will be shown off at the show, they simply won’t be at the forefront. These ARM/Android tablets are expected to hit market by Q3.

Well, this is a bit disappointing. We had originally brought you a report that Acer could be bringing a Chrome OS-based device to the Computex show this year, but apparently that’s not the case at all. In fact, Acer wanted to make sure that there wasn’t any confusion regarding the subject anymore, so they issued a release informing those who care that they won’t be bringing a Chrome OS device to Computex 2010.

In fact, Acer has “no short-term plans for such a product.” And while the company believes that Chrome OS is an exciting product, at this stage in the game the company is simply naturally interested in it, because of its services, and will be following the overall development of the platform for any future references. This basically tells us that while Chrome OS is a great idea, right now it’s just not viable for anyone to see on a launch product.

So, as Acer watches Google and Google’s overall product strategy, we’re watching out for any company out there that’s going to be launching a Chrome OS product in the near future. While two weeks may not have been realistic, we can certainly hope that some time in the Summer, we’ll be given our first glimpse of whatever it is that will be running Chrome OS in an official capacity. And, of course, at this year’s Computex you should expect to see plenty of Android devices, like tablets and netbooks, so keep your eyes glued. If you’re interested in that kind of thing.

Release:

Acer will not launch a Chrome OS netbook at Computex

Manno, 17 May 2010 – Despite recent rumours in the press regarding the launch of Chrome OS based netbooks at Computex, Acer today confirms that it has no short-term plans for such a product.

Acer believes that Google Chrome OS is without doubt an exciting product announcement and deserves it’s full attention as well as an in-depth study of its potential from a consumers perspective.

Acer is naturally interested in any product or service that enhances the overall experience of its products and will of course be following the development and progress of Google Chrome and the evolution of Google’s overall product strategy very closely.

***

Detailed information on Acer products and a catalogue with prices in PDF format are available on Acer’s website www.acer-euro.com

Looks like Acer‘s goals of being the first netbook on the market with Chrome OS installed are closer to becoming a reality. According to a report coming out of VentureBeat, it looks like the company is all ready, willing and able to get the Google Operating System out of the gate, and they want to do it as soon as humanly possible. What does that mean for the rest of us? Just a few short weeks.

June 1st, to be a little bit more accurate. Computex 2010 could be the show floor. The reports seem pretty legitimate, and there’s no reason to think that Computex wouldn’t be a great place to show off a brand new Operating System. The big question will be: netbook, tablet, or something else? Acer’s already confirmed they’re making a netbook with the OS, but this would be as good a time as any to show off something else, too.

If it is a tablet, it’s obviously automatically going to be compared to Apple’s tablet, and whether or not that’s a good thing will have to be proven here soon. What we’re most interested in, of course, is how Google OS is going to look, feel, and run on an actual machine, and not just a walkthrough. More than anything else, though, it needs to be worth all the wait.

Ah, the progression of technology. It feels good to watch, doesn’t it? Especially when it takes leaps and bounds like this. Meet the PowerColor HD5970 prototype, which is set to blow the doors off everything we had seen before. Six screens was great a month ago, but, let’s face it that was a month ago. So, what’s next? How about 12 screens?

The PowerColor HD5970 Eyefinity 12 prototype reveals plenty in the title. Yes, it does have 12 Mini DisplayPorts. On top of that, there’s 4GB of DDR5 memory. Now all we have to do is wait for someone to post a video, or even pictures, of the HD5970 Eyefinity 12 powering 12 screens of goodness. Rumor has it that we have to wait for Computex this year, before PowerColor is going to show anything off. Ah, just more to wait for.
