acer veritonx270 thumb2The Acer Veriton X270 Series of desktop PCs has been around for quite awhile but they are just now available to the US market according to an announcement from the company this morning. Intended for the business market, these PCs should make quite an impact when it comes to affordable computer options.

The X270 Series features small PCs with an array of processor options, one of which is the Intel Core 2 Duo. The NVIDIA GeForce 7100 chipset makes HD video watching possible and there’s the option of a 500GB SATA HDD. Memory can be amped up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and the nine USB 2.0 ports make connecting all of your peripherals a snap.

Also included is an HDMI port, 5.1 audio support, PCI Express x16 slot, 2-PCI 2.3 ports, a PCI Express x1 slot, Ethernet, and a DVD writer with a disc-labeling tech called LabelFlash. These are really great little business computers that offer quite a bit more than you need for word processing but still stay in the realm of professional. You can get the Acer Veriton X270 series desktop PCs now for prices starting at $399.

asuseeepc1000heHas Apple lost some of its world-renowned reliability? That’s what a new study from RESCUECOM is saying. In fact, this new study shows that ASUS topped the charts this time around–not the Cupertino favorite.

RESCUECOM is a support company and they just released their quarterly analysis. This study shows support cases taken at their call centers for each type of computer. Then, those numbers are matched up with the total number of computers shipped from each manufacturer.

Just last year, Apple was deemed the most reliable computer manufacturer, but the first few months of 2009 have proven differently. Apple received a score of 324 while ASUS received a super high 972. So, does this mean ASUS makes unbelievably reliable computers? Maybe, but most likely not. This probably has more to do with the fact that the ASUS Eee netbook surged in popularity at the end of last year and the beginning of this one. RESCUECOM believes the high score will lower a bit over time as there are actually used versions of the ASUS computers on the market.

lenovo ideapad y550The IdeaPad Y550 15.6-inch model from Lenovo has been on our radar for awhile, but we didn’t know very much about it, at least when it comes to specifics. Until now, that is. This 15.6-inch notebook is meant for those looking to make the most of multimedia applications and focuses in on entertainment.

The details didn’t come out in the form of an official release; rather, they were leaked by a retailer called Fad Fusion. This notebook has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, 4GB of DDR3 system memory, a 320 GB hard drive, GMA X4500MHD integrated graphics, a 1366 x 768 resolution display and a DVD burner. The display also uses LED backlight and has a 16:9 aspect ratio.

There’s no doubt about it: this notebook really packs a punch. With built-in stereo speakers, a subwoofer and Dolby Home Theater 2 tech, you’re sure to get a great movie experience out of it. Plus, the 1.3 megapixel web cam, 802.11n WiFi, and 6-cell battery round out the portable media package. A multi-touch trackpad is expected to be included as well. You can expect to pay around $826 for this notebook whenever it’s finally released.

Can you see where this is going? Well, we’ve got our hands on a release date (finally) and as it turns out, it’s right around the corner.

Apple have leaked the existence of an entry-level 17-inch iMac, slotting in beneath the 20-inch and 24-inch versions.  The all-in-one desktop was revealed on the company’s education pages, prompting speculation that Apple envisage primarily student and school buyers.

Update: It looks as though this could just be the old 17-inch plastic iMac; more details after the cut.
