HP keeping PC business, spin-off axed

After several months of deliberation, it’s been announced today that HP will keep its Personal Systems Group business, this PC Unit to stay in the family for the time being. Just this past August it was announced by HP that the possibility of spinning its PC business off was a real one, but just today it was noted by CEO Meg Whitman that HP will keep all ties to their PSG section as she stated “together we are stronger.” Having toured the Houston HP campus where PCs are tested for quality assurance just a few weeks ago, I can personally say that the force is strong with this one, as it were.

Apple keeps 8 year lead in US satisfaction rankings

Apple has again scooped top spot in the American Customer Satisfaction Index 2011, maintaining a now eight year lead ahead of its computing rivals. The Cupertino firm climbed a single point from its 2010 score, to 87, and finished nine points ahead of its closest rival, HP. The ACSI credits Apple’s “winning combination of innovation and product diversification” for its success.

Apple is Safe with Tim Cook

Wednesday afternoon Apple’s long-time CEO and founder Steve Jobs sent a letter out to the company’s Board of Directors and the greater Apple Community announcing his resignation as CEO of Apple. His letter requests and the board has agreed that now former Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook would become the new Apple CEO while Jobs himself would become Chairman of the Board, director, and, as he put it, “Apple employee.” As we find confidence in the fact that Jobs will continue to be a large member of the Apple family, we of course look to Tim Cook to fill the role that Jobs has defined for several decades. Is Tim Cook up to the task?

Verizon Compaq Mini CQ10-688nr is the first 4G LTE netbook on the network

Verizon Wireless has tossed the first netbook into its lineup that runs on the 4G LTE network with an embedded modem. The customer can expect to see download speeds in the 5-12Mbps range and uploads in 2 to 5Mbps range. The netbook is the Compaq Mini CQ10-688nr with a 10.1-inch screen and 1024 x 600 resolution. HP ZR30W 30-inch S-IPS display supports 1.07bn colors

HP are all about the colors with their new LCD display, since they reckon the 30-inch S-IPS panel used in the HP ZR30W is capable of showing more than one billion of them.  In fact, it'll reach 1.07bn colors, spread across its 2560 x 1600 16:10 display.  The ZR30W is accompanied by a pair of slightly more affordable monitors, the Compaq S1922 and Compaq S2021, sizing in at 18.5- and 20-inches respectively.
